HikingGreat!

The trail was great. The weather was not too hot nor too cold. This is the perfect time to go. We worked up a sweat. We took extra trails because we wanted extra workout. We did not check out the mines. Maybe next time around.

Great trail close to home. Make sure you go early on hot days. Not hardly any shade at all so take water and hat

Mountain biking

1,800ft on MTB!!!! My only issue is once this route takes you into Black Diamond Mines it directs you down a NO-BIKES trail. That trail really isn’t bike friendly; ridiculously technical. — and beware the downhill from BDM towards Contra Loma!!! Extremely steep downhill. My brakes were smoking! This was my biggest ride yet; the views were worth it!

started trail at 8am and it was already scorching hot. Not shaded at all, so bring a hat and lots of water. Looks like a fun trail to bike through.

Running

Steeps up steeps down. Awesome single track thru shaded areas. Steps on the washed out areas. Heavily trafficked by cows during the beginning and ending... watch for cow holes n pies.

Cows messed up some of the trails during the rain. It’s dry but makes for some pretty uneven scrambles when you get further out.

Hiking

Pretty hike but cow prints in the mud made it tricky for the ankles at times. Cows on the path made it really exciting when they run right at you (be cautious if calves are around).

HikingMuddyNo shade

This trail was absolutely beautiful! It was very muddy (not surprising with record rains lately), and it was through open grazing areas so there were quite a few cows in the path. Little shade for much of it, so not the best for summertime or midday, but the views are out of this world!

This is definitely a trail not to take during the summer months. Its barely shaded but it has beautiful views especially during raining season, different trees, flowers, and rock formation and even mines! The hills are green! I would definitely take this trail clockwise and follow the AllTrails direction as there are parts of the trail that is not marked. We got lost a few times adding another mile. Also, this trail is more than what the map indicates always so we ended up hiking for 9 plus miles. This is not an all ‘Ridge Trail Loop’ marked trail. I would park where its free on Judsonville Drive. You will start on the Stewartville Trail, then it connects to Ridge trail which is all incline. Once you hit the connection to North Portal and Contra Loma trail, keep going past it and go along a fence which is an unmarked trail going steep up. If you hit Miner’s Trail, you went the wrong way. This is where we got lost. This unmarked trail leads along the edge of a mountain and past a fence with a hole to crawl in. Keep going lots of rock formation mountains and trail leads towards the right. You will also past the main parking to the regional park where there is a fee or you will see the cemetery. Go to towards River View trail where this is all incline but great views. Once you get to the top, there is a steep path going downhill going towards Lark trail and then Homestead trail back to the parking lot. I would consider this trail moderate but some parts are definitely hard due to the incline was pretty steep. Elevation is on mark and was a good workout! Watch out for the cow holes on Lark and Homestead trails as most of the trails are covered with cow foot holes making your hike a little more difficult so you won’t have to sink in the big holes! I didn’t see any ticks, poison ivy on this trail so that’s good. The trails were pretty well kept. Great to do in all seasons except summer. I would do this trail again one day!

Very scenic, you will not be disappointed! I love that I can bring my dog with me up there. I would bring a lunch and sit by the edge to enjoy the view for a few minutes before my trek back down. Bring good hiking shoes for grips....the path vary from smooth to rocky and uneven.

The loop in general was good and has great views. Nice wide rails. There was a part where you had to hike up a creek bed and that was more difficult.
