OHV/Off-road drivingGreat!

Super awesome, just a one way dirt road. 4 ish miles in we were supposed to turn to continue the route but the road was closed. There was a local who was there and said normally the gate was open, and then told us that after the bridge that you can turn left to get to a lake or turn right to drive to Ramona. We went to the left after the bridge and the coolest dam and lake was there! Very cool fine

Scenic drivingGreat!

Drove the trail at sunset tonight. Absolutely gorgeous views. Saw a herd of wild turkeys.. LOL. Any 2 wheel drive can handle this trail. Very light traffic. Just go slow and keep an eye out for oncoming vehicles.

Maybe we didn’t go to the right spot. But, where the map lead us it was an unpaved trail and we had to hike through trees, brush, and dead animals. The drive there was also pretty terrifying as it was just a one lane dirt road and the other side falls right off the cliff. I would not recommend making the journey out here.

Starts as a well maintained 1.5 lane dirt road. Gets a bit rougher and a lot narrower when you get onto fs12s07. Watch carefully for oncoming traffic as there are few passing spots until you get to Black Mountain Truck Trail. Passable by a short wheelbase sedan if you take it slow.

OHV/Off-road drivingFeeGreat!No shade

It was a super good trail went there and my 2 x 4 Jeep grand Cherokee handled amazing I can get a little bit confusing just keep on going straight and towards the end of the trail there’s a little motocross area you do not need a 4 x 4 to do this trail and there is also narrow bind turns overall overall relatively easy

12 Jul 20. Majority of the 'track' is a hard packed dirt road. The section off Black Canyon Road isn't too bad. Single car road, along the hill edge. Fairly easy, some small uphill sections with small rocks, a few ruts and a little bit of sand.

Nothing more than a dirt road, and since almost every turn is only one lane expect to almost get hit head on multiple times by people who are driving way too fast.

Great starter trail for the first timer. Beautiful country, no road problems, the waterfall in spring time is a great place to stop and enjoy with the family, and you don’t need a 4x4 to make this run.

Great views. Should definitely be rated as easy though. Smooth graded road with a few very small ruts. Even with the recent rains the road was very well maintained. Could have definitely done it in a car. Overall a nice easy drive.

Flat dirt road. If you're looking in this area for fun, try Black Mountain OHV Trail.

Like others have said, first half is easy, smooth driving. The Santa Ysabel truck road is a moderate but easy drive. Good tires and 4x4 is all you need with a truck/SUV. Best part is if you are traveling from lake Henshaw to Ramona/ North County you will save a ton of gas with this route.

OHV/Off-road driving

Went here on September with 4runner TRD Offroad and it was a smooth ride. Stock SUV should be just fine expect couple spots which may require some ground clearance and good line picking. The trail was about an hour and has nice views but it doesn’t have shade spots to pull over and chill.

black canyon rd is just a dirt road. it leads to Santa Ysabel truck trail that connects with black mountain truck trail, which in turn leads out to pamo rd. The truck trail portion is easy but fun. Will need clearance in some places. Great views.

If you are starting on Mesa Grande Rd, the first half of the trail is doable in a sedan. Once you get to the Indian Reservation turn off the road becomes a little more fun. It is moderate in difficulty, but a fun close run.

Was a fun little drive through the mountains. Part of the sides of the road were covered in trash. Most of the way is one lane road so make sure you are paying attention.

Started to record late. Drove right past entrance ended in private lands farmer kinda pissy but I was in the wrong asked for directions apologized and went on my way. Tread lightly be polite. Back tracked about 150 yards and found trail head. Dropped into 4lo good to go. First 5-7 miles gotta pay attention then after you get onto the maintained trail back in 4hi cruising around 15-25 mph. Be careful around corners cause you do pass some houses so traffic is expected. Picked up some trash cause I always do and anything to help keep trails available. Excited to come back enjoy

OHV/Off-road driving

One of my first trails in my jeep along with Black Mountain. I started from the Ramona side and ended up at Mesa Grande. A lot of ruts and trees, good scenery but not too difficult (I have a 2.5" lift and 285/70r17s) and had plenty of clearance. There is a nice shaded spot about halfway through. Saw a couple eating lunch and a wooden post with .22 caliber holes in it. After that though it becomes a well maintained dirt road and you can get to lake southerland this way. A fun time with good views but nothing too challenging
