Good hike but sorry this moderate stuff only applies to the first half then it gets rocky with some large boulders in sections and some slippery sections and tricky little spots at the top. Reviews should be for someone you know that is average not some super fit young warrior who could call this moderate. 80-90 minutes up at good pace 2 hours for average folks...great views in all directions. One of the great quick hikes in the area!

Great trail to hike early in the morning and watch the sunrise over Mt Shasta.

Excellent views of Shasta most of the way up. Pretty doable steady incline. Currently part of the trail close to top (0.3 from peak) has slid out and is very treacherous with loose gravel/rocks that could easily start a slide.

Great trail!! Very rewarding views. The last mile is a bit of a bitch. You have to traverse a few good sized boulder fields. Other than that, a great workout with some amazing shots of Shasta and surrounding Trinity Forest.

If your at all afraid of heights and shale I wouldn’t recommend. We took our four year old Aussie and she did great. The views were amazing!

Did this hike yesterday, it's not as difficult as it looks, though it is quite rocky most of the way up. Beautiful early November day with great views!

Loved it. The trail is not hard at all. I thing moderate is more accurate. The weather was amazing and that’s why we weren’t dying from the heat. My 5 months old German Shepherd loved it too! If it’s true that you will find the path beyond the timberline as rocky, it’ll be nothing impossible to achieve and definitely not hard. You won’t be bouldering or climbing on the trail. Just watch your steps and you’ll be fine. The path is well mark and the views are amazing!!!

Pretty fun hike. Lots of boulder hopping, so careful foot placement is important. Our German Shepherd was not the biggest fan however, too rocky and large sections of no shade for the second half of the hike made it rough for him. Great views the whole time, not too busy.

I do not think this trail is dog friendly. It has ROCKS, boulders that you are walking over. Narrow trail with a cliff on the side. One slip with the dog and gone! A lot of sun! Bring a lot of water, for your dog too. I would rate this trail as hard NOT moderate.

Beautiful and peaceful. Great views. 6. 4 from the lower parking area. But in hindsight, my low clearance vehicle could have driven up to the trailhead. Go early to avoid the heat!

Amazing views of the surrounding area and Mount Shasta. The second half is fairly rocky but didn’t feel unstable. Moderate difficulty, as it took us 1 hr and 45 min to get to the top at a leisurely pace.

Awesome easy hike, not too long, first in the woods, then through awesome colored boulders. Really liked how the trail goes around the mountain cone, offering totally different views as you go up. Excellent choice if you only have a morning or afternoon of time to hike.

We debated this and another trail and regretted choosing this trail because you have to maintain focus or you risk slipping or hurting your ankle as you scramble from rock to rock (and we normally love that kind of thing). Should be rated as hard. Sections of the trail have been covered in rockslides. As another reviewer said - it's sketch.

A challenge if you have the fear of heights. The last stretch is a very thin path going around steep rocky slopes. Kudos to the kids and older people I crossed who made it to the top! It took me 1 hour 45 minutes to go up and 1 hour and 20 minutes to go down. I recommend going with sticks if you have them.

Moderately hard trail. It took us 1 hour 45 minutes to hike up and an hour back (including short breaks). View of Shasta from top is majestic.
