Hike the winding forest trail up reach the sun-bleached summit of Mount Barnabe and views over Marin County. The Marin headlands across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco offer tons of sightseeing potential, but doesn't everyone know it. Areas like Muir Woods and Stinson Beach are choked with traffic every fair weather weekend. Choose to drive an extra few miles, leaving the melee behind you and you'll be rewarded with empty roads and quiet trails.

Bill’s Trail is closed but the fire tower is still accessible from Barnabe Road which starts at the same trailhead. It’s a 6 mile out-and-back. Beautiful sunshine, rolling hills on either side, and a little off-trail is the grave of Samuel P Taylor! Steep at times, it’s just uphill then down and so worth it for the views. Went on a Friday morning and didn’t see a single person the whole time.
