Great run - I ended up doing the loop by just following the road. The out and back is also nice but rough if you are running!

The part of the trail which proceeds northbound from the El Capitan canyon’s upper parking lot is rather overgrown and in need of maintenance. Several miles up, where it enters a ravine before proceeding eastward on a fire road, the trail is washed out and we weren’t able to proceed.

A nice loop with some inclines and declines. Deer, rabbits, and quail are plentiful. Great views.

Nice if you’re in the area. Not worth driving out of your way to though.

This was a good trail. Definitely moderate with 3 steep uphill parts on the way there and 1 steep part on the way back. It's August, so everything is kinda dead around you on this trail but the hike does offer some beautiful views of mountainous areas around you. There is no shade so be prepared for that because even in the 70s I was swearing. Although I didn't see any on my hike, there are tiny holes everywhere so I assume snakes are around. Also, I saw a road runner, it was awesome! Meep meep!

This is kind of like an open field hike… Uphill… Over some Meadows and then downhill steeply. To go back the same way you’ve got to go up that steep hill and then across the Meadows again and back down. A little boring of a hike.

Beautiful views but beware that the trail is very overgrown and we came home with two ticks on my dog. Also no shade so be sure to pack plenty of water.

What a beautiful trail for late March. The hillsides are covered in a blanket of Marigolds (I think), sparrows flying about, and sweet red and purple wild flowers speckling the mountain side. There’s no shade, so Winter and Spring are likely the best time for this route - winds are also strong as you’re close to the ocean and very exposed with little mountainside or trees for defense. From the parking lot, and the side route to the viewing point about 1/4 way-in, total distance was closer to 6 miles (based on my Fitbit). This is a very family friendly trail, it’s well maintained, easy to follow and fairly wide. There is a descent incline but nothing too difficult.

Lots of wild flowers. Not many people. Social distanced respected. If you do the loop you can come through the camp group and order food to go. Then cut back up through the avocado tree path.

Perfect for a cloudy day. Wild flowers are lit up right now. Great for a little out and back trail run. I took my time and enjoyed the views. Rain storm came so turned around before I got to the end. Beautiful, though.

So incredibly overgrown! The “hard” side to this trail is up the rolling hills, bushwhacking through tremendous overgrowth, at best, unpleasant. Can loop around after you reach the top and come back down the easy way, just less weeds. Some flowers here and there. If there isn’t a marine layer the view from the hilltop would be beautiful, but often covered in fog. Not an enjoyable hike, not challenging, not interesting. Choose another hike.
