This hike is constant uphill in the beginning (without a doubt, pretty challenging, but highly rewarding), opening up the ocean view on one side, and, on the other, the beautiful view of snowcapped mountains. Only in California can you get this beautiful juxtaposition! After that, this trail is pretty flat and easily doable through the beautiful rolling hills. There is a $3.00 parking fee.

I agree with the other hikers that taking clockwise direction is better so that you will have steep uphill in the beginning, and less steep downhill at the end. Great views on Boomer Ridge trail. Steep uphill for near 1 mile in the beginning, but manageable.

I did the trail clockwise to get the incline out of the way. It’s difficult but worth the views of mountains and wildflowers at the top. I saw no snakes and bugs weren’t too bad. There was a nice breeze at the top too. Def recommend.

This is a good trail with lots of beautiful wildflowers surrounding the path. I recommend doing the loop clockwise, as you’ll get the steeper parts done uphill and first, with a more steady-state down climb (which is much better for your knees). We came on a morning that was overcast and a little breezy, but there would be little shade if this hike was done on a sunny day. Beware of speeding bikers.

Constant incline , relentless trail. I’m a beginner but made it halfway through, with the proper shoes, I may have been able to find job the entire thing. Super challenging though.

Tons of rattlesnakes! Baby and full grown. Also...incline is no joke! Fun if you’re up for a challenge.

If you could deal with doing the steep part first, which is just over a mile, the rest of the hike is an easy, gradual downhill descent for 3 miles. Plus you have about a mile at the top that's flat and with great views. You can see all the way from Catalina Island to Camelback all standing in one spot on a clear day. I didn't like the hike as much going in the opposite direction, because for 3 miles you doing nothing but going up hill, then the steep trip down in the end was a punishing way to end. The only fun part would be the 1 mile at the top. I recommend doing the steep part first. The parking lot is kinda small, get there early. I didn't see any street parking close by.

Fun trail. First solo hike. Little shade. Easy path to follow. Options to extend hike if wanted. Some bugs flying around me but whatever. There is a parking fee of three dollars. You can use card luckily. Parking right off of the freeway in Laguna. Accidentally stumbled upon this hike. Beautiful ocean breezes. Must be out before 5 p.m.

Wouldn't necessarily recommend this trail to hikers - it is better suited for mountain bikers and there were certainly more cyclists than hikers/walkers. It was a fine short hike a short drive from Newport Beach.

Steep on the ascent and maybe even tougher on the shins and feet on the decent. Hat and sunscreen a must. Wore my Adidas Terrex Swift X2 and they were not up for the challenge. Bad in the toe box, and tried to cut my ankles in half. Better to use a boot with proper ankle support.

Started at Big Bend parking lot, walked up Laguna Ridge Trail then looped back to Willow Creek Trail across Bommer Ridge and from that parking lot back to Big Bend parking lot. 2.5 hours at slow steady pace. Well maintained trails. No shade. Outhouses in park in both parking lots.

Nice trail! First but the incline is no joke but great views and it does flatten out nicely. No shade for the most part, and some parts are rife with flies. Very popular area with hikers and bikers but plenty of room for all. Overall nice hike, would definitely do again.

Probably a lot nicer in the spring time when they’re flowers and things are green. The hills are pretty intense, even if you’re used to hills.
