Nice 4.7 mile out and back trail on General’s Highway just before Big Meadow Road coming from Hwy 180. Decent elevation gain for the length. Amazing views of the Valley and more. Looking to the west/northwest, you can clearly make out the the Sugar Bowl Grove of Sequoias on the ridge line. To the Northeast you can make out Maddox, Mitchell and Shell Mtns in the Jennie Lake Wilderness. Come around to the East and Southeast amazing panoramic of snow capped peaks. Definitely kid/family friendly that doesn’t require crazy drive or all day hike. Got on trail just before 8 and was home in Clovis before noon.

Beautiful hike with great views of little Baldy, Chimney Rock, and the Western Divide! My friend and I did this hike October 2019. We went all the way to the end of the saddle and were not disappointed, no one else around and we had an amazing view of windswept granite ridges. It took us about 2.5 hours out and back and it was right around 5.6 miles to go all the way to the end!

Not as nice as Little Baldy, but still pleasant!

Great trail, there was still some snow along the way too. Plenty of shade and it has some good slopes but plenty of level spots for water breaks. The views are fantastic and the top of the mountain is beautiful. Bring sunscreen and bug repellant. Great clean trail for a day hike.

Absolutely love this trail! Sequoia and Kings Canyon Nation Park is my fourth stop on my 25 days to 5 California Parks Camping Trip. This trail offers breathtaking 360 views. Check out our hike here! https://kindly-kaitlin.com/2019/06/03/five-california-state-and-national-parks-in-twenty-five-days/

Great trail! Hard to see the markers to get to the turn around, keep going when you think it’s done and you’ll know when you get to the end. It’s beautiful. Took a nasty fall on the way back and landed my shin on a granite boulder. 100% my fault but finding the trail again was difficult. There aren’t many markers.

Fun trail to hike! The elevation gain wasn’t too bad at all, loved the views at the end! Overall great day hike!

The loop on here does not exist. It’s an out and back with very little elevation. Only 4.4 miles with 600 feet

Fun trail with my 12 year old. Great walk and great panoramic views from the top. You can see the Kaweahs and even Mt Whitney in the distance on a clear day

Took this hike in the morning on a chilly day in October. It was about 55 when I started and ended up being in the 60s when I finished. The trail is very easy to follow and the terrain feels great on the feet. There isn’t too many obstacles that right stick out in my mind. There were no instances of any run-ins with wildlife or bugs while I was on the trail. The views throughout the hike are spectacular, unlike many other hikes where the payoff is at the end. The trail, for my journey, had very small amounts of foot traffic and I was able to park right past the trailhead sign in a turnout. I enjoyed this one a lot!

Big baldy was a lovely 1/2 day hike that my wife and I did on our last day in the area. It is a true moderate difficulty trail with both some sharply inclined areas and other flatter, easier areas. You have a beautiful view of the valley nearly the entire time which culminates on the rock of big baldy with a spectacular panorama views. There is a good amount of sun exposure which was welcome in the 50 degree weather in October. Truly a perfect 3 hour or so quick one!

Great hike, especially on a clear day. there are a few gradual switchbacks to start out the hike, which lead to a nice climb along the ridge that offers views out west towards the valley and Mineral King to the east. The first third and last third of the trail is pretty rocky, but the middle section is a nice easy stroll. Very few hikers considering how it's one of the more enjoyable hikes in the park. Sunsets are nicer here than Moro Rock, with zero crowds.

One of the best views you can get with only 4.5 miles of distance! Great sense of solitude on the way and expansive view at the top.

Love this trail! Good for hiking and trail runs. Much of the trail is exposed ridgeline with amazing views.

This trail has some great views especially if you can go on a clear day. There is another peak past Big Baldy that offers a nice panoramic view but it is very rocky so be careful. The trail to the next peak is sometimes hard to follow but it wasn't too bad.

Can't decide which is best - Big Baldy or Little Baldy. Both have spectacular views after wonderful hikes. Completed both barely meeting another soul - wonderful!

Surprisingly secluded (only saw 4 people) in the afternoon. Seems longer than the 4 miles round trip to the peak that is listed, but it wasn't challenging even after hiking Redwood Canyon in the morning (you get a good view of it from the top). Some good spots to see marmots among the rocks.

Really cool hike to see the area. We saw plenty of groundhogs and two black bear. Once you reach the summit there are two elevation markers. Great view for lunch. Took us about two hours each way.

Nice views and an easy hike to a great lunch spot. On the way back though, stick to the same trail. We went in a loop by the lake and there weren’t any views and the trail was very overgrown. We all had to pick off 20 stickers each off us

Unbeatable 360° views with minimal effort to get to them! A fair amount of bumble bees in July

Beautiful wildflowers on July 4th in a heavy snow year. Good Sierra views of Sierra peaks to the north and east, and of the foothills to the west. Not too crowded later in the afternoon, given it’s relative popularity and it being a holiday.

Great hike for our family! Quite a few areas of downed trees across the trail, but not difficult to walk a round or step over. If you hike past the big Baldy summit, there is another peek with a great view. You can even go further a long narrow saddle, but we turned around at the second peak and it was about a 7.7 mile hike. We experienced some bees and a few mosquito bites, So just make sure you use some bug spray. Enjoyed the wildflowers, and also saw the marmot. :-) Definitely worth it!

Went today, what a beautiful trail. It was kind of hazy today though so the views could have been better but they were still stunning. Frequent ups and downs, lots of bumblebees and even saw a marmot. Snow is almost all gone, a few patches here and there.
