Facilities

The watershed remains open to the public, with some restrictions, for recreational use daily from sunrise to sunset. The recent county health order prohibits vehicles and parking at the watershed, with the exception of people with disabilities who have the required disability placards or license plates for their vehicles. Parking for those with disabilities is available at our Sky Oaks parking lot. While the watershed remains open, visitors must comply with social distancing requirements of at least 6 feet. All volunteer programs that take place on the watershed have been canceled until further notice. Take the Lagunitas Fire Rd into the Marin Municipal Water District to explore the wonderful less travelled side of Mt. Tamalpais. From the Mountain Theater take the Rock Spring Lagunitas fire Rd.

Agree on the bugs. Very odd the trail though was great, we went a bit later so it was hot, went through a lot of water. Nice rest stop at the West Point Inn for restrooms, and water. Lovely view if there isn’t our friend the fog. Skipped the scramble to the top. Nice to walk through the Mountain Theater, looks like an ancient ruin, without all the people and picnics. Very cool.

The hike was well shaded for 2/3 of the 9 miles. Yet this was the buggiest hike I’ve ever taken on mt Tam. That’s rare in this area. They also understated the short yet steep and extremely rocky trail that connects to East Peak at about mile 6. One should not be afraid of heights and should possess semi rock climbing skills or have the use of poles. i would rate this hike Hard because of that stretch. Yes, there are good views yet this is one hike I won’t repeat since other trails provide good views.

This was a great hike. Mostly moderate until the climb up to Verna Dunshee which was very steep and rocky. But the views were outstanding. We were grateful it was a clear day!ill do this one again for sure!
