The elevation gain is a steady, fairly even climb when taking the north loop up. This hike is very exposed so best to do in the morning, later evening or in cooler weather. The views are really fantastic north to Angeles National Forest and south on a clearer day. This is a great weekday training hike and a fantastic workout without the crowds of other more popular trails like Echo Mountain or Runyon Canyon. The path is a wide fire road so be aware of mountain bikers. There are a few offshoots to other trails in the Verdugo Mountains which are very clearly marked.

What a hike! We started on the left path to Beaudry South and that first 2 miles is unforgiving with consistent incline the whole time and basically no shade (we did come at 1:30pm though ). It’s a great full body workout. After those first 2 miles or so it levels out for a nice break before a slight bit more incline , then all down hill down Beaudry North with a nice refreshing breeze. Next time I may start the other way to see if it’s easier or harder , but it seems like either way is a kick in the butt to start off . Try to come earlier or way later in the day because of lack of shade . I will say the Beaudry north path has way more shade than the south portion . Bring sunscreen and bring tons of water . we ran out ! Side note : there were tons of cool little lizards running around . I almost caught one lol

Open as of 5/9, with face masks required (police were patrolling to make sure everyone was following the rules). This hike is a fire road so there is very little shade—I recommend going early. We took the loop counterclockwise for a steady ascent; descent is a little rough on the knees but not too bad. Took us about 3 hours total. Pretty wildflowers along the trail and a nice view up at Tongva peak. Watch out for snakes. Our dog found a big one in the brush on the side of the trail.

Pretty busy for the weekend and COVID-19 times. People mostly kept distance.

Nice trail. Similar to Griffith Park but further from downtown. A bit harder too with a constant incline. The tongva peak is the prized view.

Nice 5 1/2 mile loop trail. A very good hike if you like to challenge yourself. Going up either way you'll feel the burn, no escaping it.

Great moderate hike. Starts in a residential area so there’s no parking lot. It’s a fire road for most of the trail & steady incline for the first half either way you go. Great views at the top! I’d recommend a hat and water depending time of year, there’s no shade (and also nowhere to walk off and take a trail pee for some of it!) Writing this review as I gear up to hit this train again. Have fun!

Great relentless trail! It is steep no matter which way you take the loop. Gorgeous and diverse views of the city skylines and heavily wooded mountains. Got to see a hawk lazily soaring through the hills, it felt like a million miles away. Some beautiful shaded bits and little clearings. Would recommend if you want a nice little kick in the glutes.

The hike was challenging for a beginner but overall has a rewarding view. Pro: Challenging, Clean trail, Nice view of the surrounding cities. Cons: Too much of the same, no porta pottie or no water station.
