Bearpaw Meadow to Redwood Meadow Trail is a 20.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Three Rivers, California that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
Sequoia National Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are $35 per vehicle or $30 per motorcycle. If you are entering on foot or bike the fee is $20 per person. You can also purchase a park specific annual pass for $70. A great backpacking alternative when the high country is blanketed in snow. This trail is best travelled in the Spring months. The progression from the Foothills to a secluded giant sequoia grove makes it diverse. It is also possible to hook up with a more extensive trail system which can lead you north to Giant Forest or south to Mineral King. There is a great campground about 5 miles in. Excellent views of Castle Rocks and Moro Rock at the start and then the Great Western Divide and Eagle Scout Peak later down the trail.
The first couple miles are exposed so be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat. You will encounter several creek crossings, so be sure to be safe when crossing the rivers. Also, watch for rattlesnakes sunning themselves on the trail. Aim to hike this trail in the middle of June so that you can see the wildflowers in full bloom.
October 11, 2019pretty strenuous think about what you bring if backpacking it is not at buckeye campground it is a dirt road right before the entrance to campground follow for a few miles trail head is marked there lots of Creek crossings constant up and down cool views there is camping sites at 3 miles in and around 4.5 miles in that are not marked on the map
April 16, 2018Excelente para trail running, lindas vistas pero el sendero en si no es tan vistoso como otros de la zona. La pendiente permite correr todo el trayecto! Yo solo hice 9 km y regresé porque debía completar 2:30 hs de entrenamiento Lo hice en primavera hay muchos cursos de agua por lo que se puede viajar liviano sin tanta hidratación encima Medianamente Transitado hasta el camping del km 4,5 luego casi ni huellas
April 17, 2017My 65 year old father young brother and nephew headed out in this early spring hike. Trail east absolutely perfect for spring. Flowers, streams Due to the extreme winter and rain in 2017 Rivers were a bit of a challenge to cross, if you don't have near perfect balance make sure to bring a spare pair of shoes to cross in rivers with walking sticks. Ran into some heavy wind and rain at Panther stopped for an hour to take cover. There is a nice campground in about 5 miles and across the second creek. Big bolder and forepit all set up stream running and some great solitude and peace. We made it to Buckcreek and back. Clocked 18 miles. Have to say I wish we could have made it to the Redwoods. Short on 2 Day hike really need three to enjoy all the way and back. Will look to come back again possibly in summer for enjoyment of wormer weather and a dip in the streams.
July 31, 2016Great hike! Stopped at Eagle View and could look back to Moro Rock. Mehrten creek was a great place to stop, relax, fill our water and cool off our feet. 9 mile was a bit buggy. Buck Creek was too full to stop and camp, but was amazing. The last 1.4 mile push to Bearpaw was very tough, but had amazing views and deer all over.
July 18, 2016Beautiful scenery, underestimated the mileage to bearpaw meadow/junction. And I did it in the middle of summer, very much my mistake, inexperienced hiker. Would love to do this hike again, but in cooler weather.
April 3, 2016Did this in April 2016. Went 9.5 from the trailhead to the bearpaw junction and camped. Came back the next day. Excellent views of Castle Rocks and Moro Rock at the start and then the Great Western Divide and Eagle Scout Peak later down the trail. There is currently no snow pack and the stream crossings are easy rock hopping. Highly Recommend this trail for early season hiking.
November 12, 2015Did this hike in the beginning of November the weather was perfect. There was a storm earlier in the week which brought snow so the already breathtaking views were even better. I would highly recommend this hike!
May 26, 2015Very nice hike up to Panther creek. The views are awesome along the way and amazing from the creek near the wilderness campsite. About 6 mi. round trip up to Panther creek and back. We did it in mid April this year and the weather was awesome. Got to hear some thunder and see some lightning on the way back down. A nice little spring shower cooled us off for a bit on the way back to the trailhead. Will definitely do this hike again.
May 6, 2014Great views of Moro Rock and Castle Rock as your hiking along. Very warm in summer, but perfect place to hike in spring.
November 2, 2012Left a few miles out of buckeye flats to a pretty steep climb. A lot of up and down so the way back will be of similar difficulty. Gear views of Morro and castle rock. Lots of creeks and streams. Good camping about 3 miles in. Would not suggest you take this trail in the summer.
August 21, 2012Only had time for three miles in and out :( This was a dream hike since I was a small child and saw the picture of the car driving through the tree back in the early 70s. Sadly 9/11 happened and changed our travel plans. Someday I will return and finish the trail. That first three miles has made the desire to hike this trail a must do knowing the reward will be awesome.

First to ReviewThe Hike out to redwood was my first hike at altitude. we did a 13 mile stretch, all slightly uphill, what a way to acclimate! It was very dusty and hot, but so much fun. And then the big payoff, redwood meadow is just gorgeous.
