It has been reported this trail has a temporary closure due to COVID-19. Please see the park's website for up to date information. Bear Creek trail and Coastal trail combined. The trail is well marked and easily navigated. The trail is heavily used and has many alternative routes. It can be damp and muddy in the winter. Great for mountain biking. Relatively flat. Well marked trails with trail heads and milage on signs. Busy on the weekend. Light during the week. Pack a lunch and water. Please note: The Trail to Arch Rock is currently closed.

Love this trail!!

Absolutely gorgeous loop. We spotted elk in the hills and a bobcat at the end.

Recommend going counterclockwise to get the hardest part done at the beginning. So much diversity in plants, wildlife and scenario. Definitely would say to take a short detour down to the ocean.

Nice loop

Great hike! Once you transition from Mt. Whittenberg to Sky trail it is relatively downhill from there. I highly recommend the short detours to the top of Whittenberg and another cool rock formation near Coast camp and both sculpted rock and Kellham beaches but that’s what turns 13.9 miles to 17.1. Totally worth it! The whole hike is picturesque, you’ve been warned.

The trails are in pretty good shape. Not really overgrown at all. In my opinion the Sky Trail portion of it was definitely more pretty than the second half BVT. I prefer single track versus the much wider path later on. Yes the first couple of miles is very steep, but at least you get it done quickly in the beginning. Assuming you do the hike counterclockwise. Not a very busy day (Feb). I only saw two people on the Sky portion of the trail, and probably 30 on the Bear Valley portion. And I agree with other reviews. It would be nice to have a bench or log somewhere along the hike. I only saw one at the end.

Pleasant hike with very little incline. Horse manure does exist on this trail from weekday horse use. Saw several red tailed hawks on the trail

Bear to coastal to sky to Baldy on a beautiful fall day.

This was a beautiful fall day hike. Starting on Bear, to Coast, to Sky, to Baldy, and back on Bear! We took our time and enjoyed the wildlife. We saw two large bucks, lots of dear and quail, and a great horned owl patiently waiting in a tree overlooking the meadow on Bear. No slugs on this hike because of the dry conditions. The trails were nicely marked and maintained, as always in PR. Some of the trails on the ridge of Sky and Baldy had lots of downed branches, likely from the high winds of the previous weekend. I would suggest this hike for anyone wanting to enjoy an easy walk out to the coast and a bit of a challenge (rewarded with spectacular views) on the way back. It’s a great way to add a few miles and some elevation.

This was a beautiful hike. Lots of clouds and drizzle as we were heading back from the coast. Even though it was a Saturday, we met very few people on the trail. We added a loop once we got to the coast and headed up hill and came back to Bear on the Glen trail. PR has the best kept trails and they are marked at every intersection. Can’t wait to do this again!

Unsure why, but I felt too tired to complete this hike today. The visitor center was open and it’s really nice to mull over some good outdoor nature books in their bookstore as well as scope out other trail or backpacking options in the area. A plethora of information of the area is found at the Bear Valley Visitor Center, so do make sure to check out this center. Also, Many equestrians out today. I really enjoy seeing them out enjoying the trails with the hikers. If you like horses as I do, you’ll see plenty of them during the weekdays. If you get the chance check out Bovia cafe in Point Reyes station which has great coffee and the best bakery in all of Northern California! Unfortunately, I am not muffin worthy today due to such a short hike.

Nice morning 5 mi hike, 2h w 30 lb pack. Last 1.5 mi gradual uphill

A beautiful morning for a hike with no crowds. Really enjoyed the ripe air, rich greenery and pleasant petrichor formed by the mist of the heavy fog which canvased the forest. A raincoat was needed. Very soulful and refreshing hike even if shortened because of time constraints. Always a favorite hike rain or shine!

Beautiful day to hike today. The meadow trail bridge is almost complete and will open up tomorrow.

Amazing, almost all flat with small incline decline. Beach is incredible.

Hike is very flat but long. The trail near the end is hard to find since it is not clearly marked. There is no view during the long flat hike, only at the end. The hike took about 2.5 hours round trip.

Great day to hike! Foggy and cool. Lots of beautiful lupine along the trail. Meadow trail closed from September 3-13 due to a new bridge over the stream.

Today I left this trail and went off on meadow trail to sky trail, then looped back to Bear Valley Trail and wow was I pleasantly surprised! Sky trail felt and looked almost like a tropical forest in some parts. Absolutely stunning trail. Wear long pants. Lots of poison oak!

Another great hike! We enjoy this hike even if we’ve done it many times! It never gets boring. So beautiful.

What a beautiful hike! Seen a family of Quails.. Lots of shade on most of the hike.. totally recommend

It was an amazing hike with lots of shade. It’s a slow incline and leads to the Kelham Beach Trail which leads to stairs and the ocean.

Great day for hiking! Trail is well maintained and easy for all levels.
