Short Backpacking trip to Coast Camp This is a short backpacking trip from the Bear Valley Visitor Center to Coast Camp. This is an overnight trip that can be changed to several different ways back. This is a good short overnight trip. The first two miles is pretty steep up hill and the last four is mostly downhill. There isn't really a lot of flat trail.

Amazing first time backpacking trip! We checked in at Bear Valley Visitor Center around 10 am. We started our hike from the visitor center on Bear Valley Trail and immediately took the Mt. Wittenberg Trail. This part of the trail is pretty steep and was the most difficult part for us. At the top you will reach Mt. Wittenberg at 1407ft. It was foggy when we arrived but still beautiful! We continued on Mt. Wittenberg trail to Woodward Valley 2.0. Would definitely recommend it was a little challenging but mostly you are ascending down in elevation. We then took the Coast Trail to Coast Camp. Amazing views!!!! We stayed at Coast Camp in site #6 which was perfect. We couldn't see or hear our neighbors really at all. All of the sites #1-7 seemed pretty nice. They also have some group camp sites but they aren't as private. You can walk from the coast camp sites on a short trail to the beach. Huge Beach with beautiful sand and not too many people around.

On our second day we decided to take an easier route that would be mostly flat ground. We hopped on the Coast Trail and headed to Sculptured Beach. The trail isn't maintained very well to get down to the beach, but once you do it is incredible! Huge rock formations and if you get there at low tide you can even walk through some of the tide pools and stone archways. After Sculptured beach we headed back along the coast trail back to Bear Valley Trail. The coastal trail can get hot you are in the sun the whole time. The trail is fairly flat and on a clear day you will have great views of the blue ocean for most of the trail. The Bear Valley Trail is a very flat, wide trail. It is also a bicycle trail route. There is a lot of shade and easy walking which was great for our last leg of the trip. I would totally recommend this trip to anyone who is getting started with backpacking, we had an amazing trip!!!
