Lake Views, Interpretive Signs and Brochures, Well-Maintained Trail The Woodland Trail provides an excellent introduction to and explanation of the flora indigenous to Big Bear Lake. An informative interpretive guide is provided at the trailhead, with descriptions corresponding to the twenty numbered signs along the trail. Differences between Western Juniper and Incense Cedar are explained, and a number of very common plants discovered at this altitude are identified. The approximately one-and-one half mile loop features mildly steep sections along a well-maintained trail, making this hike is an appropriate warm-up hike for "flatlanders" adjusting to the mountain altitude prior to treks along the Cougar Crest or Gray's Peak trails located nearby, and spectacular lake views existing near the loop's completion provide an enjoyable experience for hikers of nearly every level of ability.

My husband and I brought our 2 dogs on this trail. There was a fair amount of people on the trail, including one tour group, but everyone we met were so friendly and courteous. Just remember to step aside so that faster people could pass you and make sure to clean up after your dogs! The trail is well maintained and very easy! I’d recommend this hike for all people of all ages and dogs!

easy, quick and fast

Very easy hike. We went around sunset and it was perfect conditions. A little chilly out (~32 in the shade) so the trail was pretty empty. There were a few areas that could have been marked clearer. There weren’t as many lake views as I would have hoped, but would definitely return with my pooch.

Snow is melting so it is a bit muddy in some spots. But overall a nice hike before lunch, lots of good views.

This hike was awesome!! This week, there was still some ice on the ground so it made the trail muddy and slippery. But plenty of great views and huge rocks to take pictures on! I highly recommend this to anyone in big bear!

Nice trail! Relatively quiet, but that probably has to do with off peak season. Easy trail with some ups and downs and nice views. The fir and pine trees also smell also smell amazing.

Hiked this trail today with my 4 yr. old daughter, wife, and parents. Decent trail for beginners and great scenery. We only saw two people in the trail which was expected since it's a Tuesday. We also ran into a rattlesnake along the path so keep an eye out! Had a great time overall. Highly recommend if staying in Big Bear.

A nice easy trail. The trail is dog friendly and has some cool views. There are a couple of nice rock formations around the trail. Just remember to get your adventure pass for the day, the park does check for the pass if you use their parking lot.
