Lake Views, Interpretive Signs and Brochures, Well-Maintained Trail The Woodland Trail provides an excellent introduction to and explanation of the flora indigenous to Big Bear Lake. An informative interpretive guide is provided at the trailhead, with descriptions corresponding to the twenty numbered signs along the trail. Differences between Western Juniper and Incense Cedar are explained, and a number of very common plants discovered at this altitude are identified. The approximately one-and-one half mile loop features mildly steep sections along a well-maintained trail, making this hike is an appropriate warm-up hike for "flatlanders" adjusting to the mountain altitude prior to treks along the Cougar Crest or Gray's Peak trails located nearby, and spectacular lake views existing near the loop's completion provide an enjoyable experience for hikers of nearly every level of ability.

Great trail, very smooth. Easy to follow. Plenty of places to rest. Brought out momma she did fine. My dog loved it !

I would recommend this trail. It was an easy, albeit somewhat up hill loop trail. Lots of lizards, and some squirrels. Plenty of shade for a 4pm summer afternoon hike. There is even an occasionally bench to sit on and rest.

The trail was a fun easy hike without too many people. Good rock formations and some views of the lake. Shade is minimal. Dogs on leash and there is a bathroom that is open at the entrance along with a picnic table.

For an easy trail it’s a little rough but get way easier quick. Nice peek a boo views of the lake. Kids (under 8) complete just fine.

This was a great trail overall, but there was alot of bugs and rocks for our pups. At the end of the hike they were all covered in dirt but they had a blast running around.

Great trail! It was a beautiful day so we took the trail at a slow pace and saw California quail and their young, Western bluebirds, sap sucker, western jays and goldfinches. It was fun to stop at each numbered post and find out fun facts about the things along the trail. Also saw tons of lizards!

Good short hike with interactive signs that tell you about certain things like some really old trees and what wildlife do to survive.

This is a simple hike with some nice views of the lake. Partially sunny and partially shady. We took our dog, who had a great time. If masks are important to you, know that not one person on the trail, including us, had masks on.

Well defined trail with information markers around it. Nice views of the lake. Popular trail so it will get crowded.

Easy trail. A bit muddy/slushy in certain areas. Good hiking shoes recommended. If you’re looking for a quick and easy hike, this trail is perfect. Dog friendly. Keep small dogs on a leash, coyotes are known for being in the area. Bathroom is really bad. Please go before you arrive. Great view of snow summit from across the lake! Make sure you start from trail marker 1, and not start from the end
