Experience the wild western shoreline on the Batteries to Bluffs Trail. This rugged route takes visitors along the cliffs bordering the Pacific Ocean, allowing hikers to explore historic gun batteries, seeps and springs, coastal plants and wildlife, and stunning views. This short trail provides a great way to see the bluffs near the Presidio and offers views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin that are hard to beat. The trail has several places with steps and some climbing if you decide to take the side trip down to Marshall Beach - a quiet, isolated area surrounded by rocky serpentine cliffs with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Try hiking this trail near the end of the day to enjoy a long sunset over the Pacific Ocean and the lights of the Golden Gate Bridge.

I loved this trail, it’s so beautiful when it’s sunny out. It had just rained earlier in the day, and there were a few muddy spots, but nothing so bad that you couldn’t traverse. Very well maintained trail. I went the reverse way - parked on Lincoln Blvd. (next to the Battery Crosby trailhead/Sand Ladder), and I’m pretty glad I did. Made for longer descents starting and finishing, and only one steep climb back up from the beach.

Gorgeous day. Recording didn’t work through the whole Trail- but I did whole Trail

Trail can get crowded. The connector to Baker’s Beach is under construction. You will need to go around.

Great views all the way. Coming up will get your breath pumping but it’s pretty short. Got there with my dog and saw the no dogs sign, took her anyways and saw other dogs too. She loved Marshall beach!

Make sure to take the Batteries to Bluffs trail off of the Coastal Trail. Great scenery, fun trail and the Bridge is magnificent! World class in my backyard!

My favorite walk in SF. I live in sf and do this walk at least once a month. Very easy and beautiful views!

Great views. No shade but not to worry you get a cool breeze from the water.

This was enjoyable for sf. When the fog clears, there would be amazing views. There are a TON of steps but it isn’t impossible — there seem to be breaks built in. The batteries really aren’t that interesting though if I’m being honest.

Beautiful views! I would put this in the moderate category. There are a lot of steps up and down.

Beautiful views, coming back up it is steep. Kind of busy on weekend afternoons.

Windy, beautiful, birds and flowers, surprisingly few people, a little poison oak, didn’t see any ticks in the grass, watch out for smash and grab car burglars!

This was a very nice hike. The only challenges were the stairs leading down to Marshall’s Beach and coming back up. We got to Marshall’s at high tide so there wasn’t much of a beach, just lots of rocks on the shore. So take the tide tables into account. Lots of photo opps! Trees, flowers, the Coast, the Golden Gate Bridge, etc.

Amazing views of the GG Bridge. I recommend doing that hike only when it’s not foggy on that side of town.

Nice decent hike with amazing views. I took a detour down to Marshall’s Beach and walked it before coming back to the main trail. Not a lot of people which made it easy and quiet!
