J’ai bien aimé ! Le barrage, les écritures sur les rochers beaux paysages. Assez achalandé. Facile.

IMPORTANT: The trail you see for this is not the full loop. The loop itself is 1.3mi round trip. This is an excellent introduction to Joshua Tree on an easy trail. Not only do you walk among Joshua trees, cholla cacti and other Mojave foliage for the western part of the loop, you'll also see the rocky formations to your east the park is equally famous for. That said, it's definitely not the most interesting thing in the park and wouldn't describe it as the must-see it seems to be, and is extremely crowded. In January, the dam's volume was *very* low. It is typically highest earlier in the season, and If you came specifically to see barker dam you will be terribly disappointed.

We were lucky enough running into a Park Ranger and walked with him (thank you officer D Larson) the whole way. Beautiful views at every turn. The dam and trough viewing was spectacular. Go do this hike.

My family and I had a great time of the trail. We spent about 1.5 hours on it. There was about 8 inches of snow and spots were icy, but we were able to explore and experience the area. The trail was very busy.

It is a nice easy trail for those who have no mobility issues. There are steps and when we went there was snow. Make sure to use your hiking shoe spikes as it gets slippery and makes the walk around the trail slightly not enjoyable since you are then mostly looking down and not up to see the large rocks and trees. Nice spot for photos by the lake, especially now since it is frozen. There was a small stream when we went since it had been snowing so it was also muddy. Parking lot has bathroom at the entrance. There is also a park ranger at the entrance controlling people in and out of the parking lot. Be patient or you will be forced to park further away and walk on the road with people who are not planning on slowing down for you or anyone else.

This trail was very icy and wet when I went which made this walk unexpectedly challenging. It was also pretty crowded with families - the parking lot was full when we arrived, however someone happened to leave once we reached the main parking lot and so the rangers let us enter. The dam water was frozen, making for a pretty scene though!

Was able to find the red woman petroglyph but couldn’t find the brunette woman. The part of the trail that goes past the dam and to the main petroglyphs is marked but looks tricky when going around some rocks. Overall easy hike! Beautiful at dawn and a good way to start the day.

This trail is good for families. No water in the dam. The history of the dam was intriguing but not as intriguing as the petroglyphs - the real gem in this trail. For pictures of this trail and many more, follow my Instagram @nathan_vanengen
