This is a lovely trail where the water is in sight the whole time. It gets warm in the direct sunlight for portions, but much of it is in the shade. There is a good amount of poison oak that sometimes encroaches onto the trail, so that’s something to watch for.

great views of the lake, a lot of bird life, and you can easily get down to the lake if you desire. don't forget to check out the caverns just down the road!

Great trail , walking clock wise is easier. Great views. A little bushy. This in Shasta-Trinity’s national region. (Not Whiskeytown national region) Easy access from I-5

This trail had a lot of trees fall over the trail at one point. Mostly cleared. Could use a little maintenance. Clock wise is easier. Geo caches to be found here also. Restroom are clean. Camping nearby w camp host. It has some beautiful views of Shasta Lake .

Lots of poison oak, and some brush encroaching trail, but still easily passable. The gnats, however were relentless today!

Nice easy shaded trail, downfall very rocky and had to be aware of the ground below you. But nice trail.

Good, rocky hike. Follows the coast of the peninsula so the water is always in view. Access to private, little beaches for swimming. Fairly private, underused - the trail is very slightly overgrown and lightly obstructed in places. Not a difficult hike, but takes careful footwork.

The trail is currently closed. We hiked it anyways. It’s a very easy hike. With the trees down on the trail it needs some work. There are a few spots that are slippery and slightly steep because of the trees being down. Not a big deal for most.

needs some work on the poison oak growth on the side of the trails. It looks like they put in a lot of work in clearing the trail of this season's downed trees. there were some signs posted the trail was closed but it was not clear until we reached the other end of the loop. Great trail but needs some work.

Beautiful, especially with Shasta Lake so full right now, but tons of poison oak encroaching the trail. May 24, 2019 so I had to give it 3 stars. Also, there's a $7 day use fee.

Relatively easy hike overall. Rated 4 stars because some of the trees have fallen which made it as an obstacle throughout the hike (mainly for non active hikers or flexible folks). Lots of shades and people fishing. Easy-moderate.

Beautiful, shaded, easy water access, this trail will be perfect as soon as it gets some maintenance from the recent storms. I have severe Arthritis and hike for daily exercise, this trail would not have been doable for me if I would have been alone. For more able bodied folk the downed trees were fun and a good obstacle but for those who do not easily crawl, jump, climb, and forge their own trails it was quite a challenge. With all that in mind I’ll still be back once a crew gets out there because the parts that were just hiking were breathtaking.

Beautiful but it is an obstacle course with all the downed trees, had to go off trail a few times. Had fun!

Lots of felled trees (20+), probably from recent storms. No problem for hikers, not good for bikers. Nice, flat, and shaded!

It was a great beautiful day hiking out with the dogs and sharing it with my partner. We enjoyed this hike.

It might be a nicer trail if there was water in the cove and if the trail were maintained better. Still it was a nice stroll.

Another great loop. Water always close if lake is full. pups off leash are fine.

Or would be hiking. I’m sure the trail is beautiful but it’s $6/day to use this area, even with a Recreational Lands Pass (its some kind of special recreational permit). Sorry, but there are lots of beautiful places around here that are free. We got out, got right back in, and won’t be back.

Great trail with awesome views... very surprised with the negative review. The trail is very good with clay and rock base and very firm footing with awesome views of the lake. Far better than most... The only possible negative for me was the 1st 1/2 you're hearing the noise from I-5 but the positive is it's very close. The backside of the hike is across from probably the largest fresh water marina I've seen. The main dock was way over 1/4 mile long. Also surprising was how different the growth and type of trees from the north and south side of hike was. I did another trail just a couple of miles away called Waters Gulch. Didn't notice a fee box so hopefully a ticket won't follow me home...

We were only there for an hour. And there was no way for anyone to keep track of the fees. So we ran onto the woods. Beautiful. Probably would be sketchy with kids or older people. There were a lot of lizards on the sunny side. And you’d prob want to watch for other possible reptiles. Great views of the lake. A great trail to stretch your legs on, if your on a long drive. We were traveling back to WA, from CA, and is was right off the freeway. Quick access on, and off. If you have charcoal and food, you could bbq at the pits that are available. Picnic tables and all.

Be warned $6.00 day use fee. Hike is not worth the money. Poorly maintained monotonous trail that is narrow, so much so that many times your outside foot is perilously inches away from the steep banks down to the lake. No shoring has been done to make the trail safe,. You will be hiking under the Forest canopy with a photo worthy view opening up maybe 3 or 4 times. We won’t be back when there are so many other safe and free trails with much more to offer.

Great hike around the lake. Shasta lake was about 50’ down. Still beautiful!

This was a very easy hike. No incline...I would consider it more of a walk but it has nice views of Shasta Lake the entire way.
