The trail has pretty wildflowers and is mostly shaded (in the morning). The first four miles of the trail are overgrown in many spots, which made it much slower and less enjoyable. The views at the top are pretty, but views of the valley are hidden for a good portion of the hike. Also distance is 13.5 from parking to top and back, not 10.5 listed in All trails. There are many other hikes nearby that are much better, in my opinion. I won’t be doing this one again.

Pretty tough ascent through larger rocks. I’m athletic but new to mountain biking and had to walk parts due to the difficulty. Going down was a blast and well worth all the work to get up. Sort of a short ride since no bikes allowed after the trail goes across Piuma so I had to take the road back. I would say it was about an hour total. To me it’s worth it since I live a few blocks away.

Great hike. Closer to 13 miles if you park in the lot. Still well worth it for the workout and views.

Trippett Ranch to Piuma Rd. In Malibu Canyon. Tougher than the first leg of the backbone trail from Will Rodgers to Trippett.

Great shade on first half for hot sunny days. Lush in spots you don't expect. Some larger rocks on the trail in parts that require a bit of step up/down. Note: if you are traveling south from Piuma and get to the animal sanctuary, the trail picks up directly across the parking lot, not down the driveway. I'ts not easily visible.

Great hike! Shady in the morning with partial shade in the afternoon. Easy uphills. And I loved not seeing a single person on the trail until I turned to go up to Saddle Peak. Some parts are overgrown and you have be on the lookout for poison oak close to the trail. But otherwise excellent hike.

trailhead is tricky to find and parking is a bit far from the trailhead as well. it's worth it though as I like to call this trail jurrasic park. lots of greenery and shade and spots to take a break. may be challenging for less fit people but great single track.
