Locals and tourists flock to Asilomar State Beach. It is in close proximity to Monterey's Cannery Row, in the heart of Pacific Grove, and has a highly popular conference center for retreats. If you need a break from the regular tourist stuff, this is a great option. The trail goes between soft and compacted sand to wood paneled walkways with small gazebo outlooks and is an easy walk with only a few rocks to watch out for. The beach and bluff walk provide ready access to some spectacular coastline, tide pools, marine mammal and offshore preserve, kelp beds, and more. It's extremely popular locally for morning and afternoon walks. It's accessible, tucked between the coastal road and the ocean and one of those places that's gorgeous no matter the weather. There are all sorts of possibilities here for ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, and diving. Being in Northern California, the water's cold...not a great place for casual swimming.

Very easy hike with beautiful rocky shore. Being from Texas I was amazed at the life in the tidal pools. An amazingly peaceful walk for scenery and the sound of waves on the entire trek.

Heaven-on-earth? Home. I go back to you over and over. Kelp, seasonal cycles of jellies. September billowing cumulus. Never too far from 56 degrees Fahrenheit. Home.

This trail is stunning and fairly flat. There are several sections that are unpacked sand, but they don't last too long.

Love this trail. So beautiful with wild flowers ( 3/25/2017) and sound of the waves the entire trail.

Nice walk on boardwalk and some spots for tide pools exploration and beach fun. Despite being labelled as an on-leash only beach (it is required by law and signage), some fools let their dogs off leash and without proper voice control. On two separate occasions during the same walk, I had to keep two dogs away from my dog, one I had to hold away by the collar and wait for its owner to retrieve it; and it was very frustrating. Despite that, my dog appeared to have a good time otherwise - we had to sometimes go on the boardwalk to avoid other off-leash dogs who were obviously not under voice control and owners weren't paying attention... So if you have a reactive dog, you may need to be on the lookout for irresponsible owners.

One of the most relaxing trails I ever hiked. The sound of the ocean was lulling. Saw California sea lions, harbor seals, elephant seals, deer, whales, an eagle, squirrels, crabs, and tons of other wildlife!

My dog Candy-Cane and I do the loop from Fishwife -- 17 mile drive -- Spanish Bay -- back almost to Asilomar. It isn't this exact trail that is mentioned but it's basically attached to it. It's probably my most favorite hike ever! There are big trees, the beautiful "Spanish Bay" golf course and of course the amazing beach! People do let there dogs off leash on the beach so be aware as some people let them come running down the trail like lunatics.

Fun hike with my dog. Trail head was not quite where my GPS said it should be. Great picnic spots among the shelter of beach rocks. Trail is super easy, but it can be made more challenging by beach walking and rock hopping.

Nice trail to walk, worth a stop if you are just wanting to stroll around or have children with you. Great for older folks who don't want to scramble over rock or obstacles. It is fun to watch the surfers in Spanish bay though! A lot of seals hang out on the rocks too and the tide pools aren't bad.

Dune Boardwalk was somewhat boring as was alot of the 17 mile drive - though the coast is worth a few photo ops and short treks and is a car to car hike for sure.
