This is not an off-road driving road. This is a scenic paved one-way road in Death Valley National Park.

Not really an off-road drive at all - in fact, the whole drive is on a narrow, paved one-way road. There is a couple of places to stop and walk around a little bit, which I would definitely recommend. Even if you just want to drive though, you will get some nice views of cool rock formations. Convenient especially in summer when it's too hot to spend too much time outdoors.

Memorable colors, fairly crowded

Really pretty rock formations. Get out and hike otherwise you'll miss so much.

Get out of the car and hike. Otherwise you don’t see the good stuff.

This is more than a drive- I'm not sure everyone realizes that. There are a couple of different trails to hike along the drive and I really encourage it. Some of the overlooks show you a spectacular color show you won't see if you just stay in the car.

Amazing rock colors and geologic formations, go slow, people are walking along roadside and you won't see them until the last second!

Seen via a fun, mini roller-coaster kind of drive off the main road. Brilliant colors and aptly named. A must for photographers.

Easy drive on paved a road. Beautiful scenery.

Beautiful drive but not an off road trip

Not an off road trail, but full of great dips and curves in addition to the amazing colors and rock formations! Definitely a must-do in Death Valley.

I think this is where the gods tap off the excess pigment off their brushes. Its gorg. When the sun shines is when it paints best

A little underwhelming compared to the other exhibits in the area. It's just a 10 mile drive one way through twists and turns, leading you through pastel colored hills. I would do it again but it's not something super high on the priority list next time I visit DV.

Did this at sunset, the colors really jump out in the twilight

We did not do the whole artist's palette trail but the different colors of the rocks are definitely noticeable. There are different platforms and rocks that you can climb, overlooking the entire area.

This drive was lovely and scenic. It isn't a dirt road thou, so this isn't off roading at all.

We went in February and we're lucky it had been freshly paved. The contrast between the fresh black and the landscape was stunning.

Be careful of the two literal dips in the road. They are quite deep.

As an aside, we did a hiking trail through the canyon going in one dip and out the other. To date this is our favorite 'trail' in the park. It's about 4.5 miles of solitude and beauty.

Both this drive and the trail are highly recommended. I would give the drive 4 stars but the trail 5.
