Armstrong Grove State Nature Preserve http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=450

A popular park off the Russian River, Armstrong can get quite busy. The picnic areas fill quickly so check with the park web site regarding reservations. Redwood forests can get quite cool. Bring some warm cloths. The reserve is located three miles north of Guerneville on Armstrong Woods Road. From Highway 101- coming North or South- take the River Road exit (in Santa Rosa). Go west on River Road until you reach Guerneville. At the second stop light make a right hand turn onto Armstrong Woods Road. This road will end in the park.

Hiking

Dogs are only allowed on paved roads but not dirt trails. Regardless, great covered hike for people and pups alike. Clean restrooms at trailhead with ample parking in lot or along road.

One of my favorite places ever, just walk around and admire the giant redwood trees. Afterwards go to Stumptown brewery for some beers. What else can you ask for?

Great with little kiddos or folks with mobility limitations. My mom had a knee replacement not too long ago and this was perfect.

Compared to other redwood parks (Montgomery Woods, Humboldt Redwoods, Redwoods NP) it was okay. I did go when it was sunny and I think redwoods are best in the rain.

Easy for families, dogs, or an afternoon stroll. If you have family visiting, this is a great place to show outsiders what the Redwoods look like. Beautiful in the sun and in the rain! Entry fee for cars, walk ins are free.

Did this short hike in the pouring rain. Gorgeous scenery. Park outside the gate and walk in, save yourself a few bucks.

This looks like a great family trail. I enjoyed the perspective of looking up at the trees in the photos. It really helped give a sense of how majestic this forest is.
