The beginning of the trail goes above a residential area for about 1/4 mile...don't let this deter you from continuing! This trail is very cool. Great views and other trails connect toward the top! Gorgeous rocks and mountains and flowers and cacti. Dogs can come on PART of the trail. You will run into a sign indicating that dogs are not allowed past that point.

Great trail. It would be better if there was shade. Hike this trail very early in the summer months. I hiked the complete 4.1 miles. Trail was clean and elevation was a good workout. The trail took us behind Bob Hope’s home (he use to own it). That was really neat seeing it from the back and up close. The peak offered beautiful views of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. This is a good trail for kids and beginners as well. Highly recommended.

Views are fantastic. I would say All Trails has it rated appropriately as moderate. A recent reviewer said it was easy, but as a reasonably fit man, I would not rate it that way. There was never a need to use my hands to climb or steady myself, but it was still tiring on the way up.

Overall an excellent experience today!

A challenge at times but lots of places to sit and enjoy the views of Bob Hope’s former house.

Decent desert hills type trail. Need to be in ok shape as there’s fair bit of elevation. Wear good footwear (good runners, trail shoes) as a variety of surfaces to go over. Try and start by 8/8:30am—small parking lot at bottom fills up after that, especially weekends. And of course, early start in the heat as hills provide some shade from rising sun in hours just after sunrise. Great views at top.

Lots of old Palm Springs 'royalty' along this trail, with great views. Can be a bit steep/tough for novices, but if you take it slow and steady, it's worth the effort!

Great trail, good workout. Unfortunately recent rains have damaged many areas, some are difficult to negotiate. Once you reach the top there are many connecting trails.

The beginning, behind the mobile home park, is pretty boring, but be prepared for gorgeous views past that. Great for a quick walk on a weekday morning.

I've done this hike a few times. I am not a huge fan of out and back trails, but this one affords great views of the valley, is close to my house (in PS) and can be done quickly when I don't have a lot of time. I like the warm up walking at the beginning of the trail, above the trailer park, before the climbing starts.

Best to hike this trail on a cool day...no shade whatsoever. Easy access to the trailhead as it is just off East Palm Canyon Drive. Note we did the hike on 12/12/13. At that time the Bob Hope House was on the market for sometime and finally sold in 2016. Funny, one of the reasons you do the hike is to get a close-up view of the space age flying saucer looking Bob Hope House that once was listed for $50 million, yet at the start of the hike on your left hand side you past a large trailer park. As soon as you can no longer view this interesting trailer park you start the upward incline portion of the hike. The hike provides good exercise but disappointing for those of us who enjoy looking at desert plants. Just gravel, sand, small boulders, no wildlife. As the trail climbs upward the Hope House comes into view as well as a few other homes, one of which was once owned by the late actor Steve McQueen. So you enjoy a view of a home that looks like it belongs in a Jetson's cartoon and five or so beautiful mid-century homes. The trail offers a rocky outcrop that provides a place to rest, eat, drink, and view the rear area of the house. Other than a service road the dead ends at the back of the Hope House there is not much detail to see unless you bring binoculars. This is a junction for other trails or a good place to turn around if you just came to see the Hope House.

If this trail weren't so conveniently located and didn't have a scenic destination, I wouldn't recommend it. The first third is nestled in a crowded neighborhood, so it doesn't feel like a hike. It gets more interesting (and much steeper) when you leave the neighborhood, though. The destination offers great views of the valley and three mountain ranges: the San Bernardino, Little San Bernardino, and San Jacinto. I did this trail in 60-degree cloudy weather, and it was very comfortable. It must be unbearable on hot sunny days, though.

A great hike with good views of the valley. Wished I would have started earlier as it connects to Garsten and Berns.

A somewhat short hike but good views of the local valley. You pass by Bob Hope's house on the way up! No trees or shade. Recommend doing this during the cool months. Some pics and the hike profile are located via the link below.

Interesting start, kinda feels like maybe you're walking on private property for the first 1/2 mile or so. The trail is single file and lots of loose rock. No trees, or shade for entire hike. Nice views, no bikes allowed.
