When you walk up the small paved access road from the parking lot, you’ll reach the trail on both your left and right. We went left toward the lake. Some shade, pretty easy at first. On the back side of the loop there was more shade and it got a little more hilly. Noise from boaters sort of ruined the serenity. Once you get to the north point of the loop and start heading back, it’s almost all shading and there was A LOT of poison oak near the trail. The trail was wide enough to avoid it easily. Don’t forget the $8 entrance fee and lots of water. Recommend avoiding it in the summer unless you can go really early. It was 90° and somehow felt much hotter.

Took a second to find the trailhead, but filling the map made it quick. Once on the path, it made a great hike loop!

This was our first hike using All Trails. It was a great hike. There is an $8 entrance fee to the park and bathrooms at the trail head. The walk was Very nice, easy with plenty of vistas. The map is easy to follow. If your new to this or apprehensive, this is a good starter trail. Take a water bottle, a camera and enjoy. If you take animals, there does appear to be poison oak off the trail that they could get into

So beautiful!!! The loop is perfect very scenic along the lake. Bathrooms and Tons of parking. Go on this hike and you won’t be disappointed! Very little wildlife or bugs midday. Mix of sun and shade! Not too rocky.

Very nice, easy hike that has great views of New Melones lake on the back side. This trail is also used by mountain bikes, so keep an eye out for them behind you. We saw a bobcat while on our trip and after talking with the ranger afterwards found out there is a family of them living in that area off the trail. Highly recommended if you’d like a relaxing walk through the trees with great views while in the area.

Parking in boat ramp lot. Short hike uphill on road to left turn (recommenced over turning right). Flat for ~1 mile so can be used as an out-and-back at that point if desired, especially if you want to avoid poison oak that is close to the trail. Only a couple plants near in first mile, quite a bit more for rest of trail. Narrow trail, single file only. Both shade and sun, lots of trees so view of lake is often obscured, but enough views to enjoy. When given opportunity to take upper “shortcut” I found fallen tree completely blocking path so that I came back down. In April: wildflowers, a few ticks, spiky thistle far enough to avoid. If I were to do again I wouldn’t go past the trail split.

Great little trail. I would lean more toward this being an easier trail rather than moderate. It starts with a short accent on a paved road and then is dirt afterward. Pretty well travelled trail lines with no real major obstacles. The backside area has awesome views of the lake and a steep hill on the lake side that you follow. Not really an issue unless you were mountain biking at increased speeds and lost control. I would say that might be where the “moderate” rating comes from. Awesome trail with great views! Also, there is another trail inside the lake area that is not marked on here. Well marked with a parking lot just for it and trailhead. You just turn left instead of right off the main road where you’d head to the creek trail. We did not do this die to lack of time, so I do not know the difficulty of it.

Great hike with beautiful views. You could see snow on the mountains and plenty of views of the lake. There were so many beautiful manzanitas, little brooks, and lots of birds chirping and flying around. We went mid February so it was a bit cold and frosty. Definitely a great hike for dogs!

All posted signage refers to this as “Angels Creek” not “Angles Creek”. We hiked this in January and it was great. Views of New Melones Lake for the majority of the hike. The trail was well kept, some slippery leaves/muck. Good mix of flora along the trail as well, with some impressively large manzanita trees! There was a point where you can take a shortcut but it was not signed - having cell service here allowed us to check the alltrails map and choose the longer, flatter route.
