We chose to start this trail in the parking lot at the scenic overlook. We took west mountain trail to the switchback end of sunset trail and then back to the parking lot via west mountain on the other side. For those who are not in great shape, this will be pretty challenging on all of the inclines. It was doable but not comfortable. The trail was nice with decent grading (some rocky areas in the dirt trail). It was shaded 90% of the time by trees. No stairs and a few benches along the way. Bring water because there are no fountains on the trail or at the top. We will come back once we are a little more accustomed to hiking - it shouldn’t take long to get there!

Nice easy trail. Wish I had my running gear as I think it would be perfect for that. Good combo of up and down hill - nicely groomed

A National Park in the middle of the city! You can take the super steep Canyon Trail into the park or park at the over look and start trail in the middle. Well-marked, beautiful and glimpses of wild life! Visit the Visitors center on Bathhouse Row to get your maps and stamp you NPS Passport!

I love this trail!! I have run and walked this trail multiple times and have never had a bad experience! There are a few uphill sections, but they aren't bad at all.

Nice trail! We came in the through Canyon Trail which is an old carriage trail and so cool. We then came back through Whittington park and walked up Central.

Great trail. East side of trail has one long steep incline, and a sharp but short, steep incline...just take your time and stop if needed. Levels off at the top and lots of rocks to sit on and catch your breath. West side of trail has 3 steep but short switch backs. Took us an hour to the trail. Nice views at trailhead and not very busy.

We hiked this late December after a very rainy storm last night. Trail was perfect for a morning hike—nice length with a slight elevation challenge to wake us up. It was very foggy so no good views. We did the short sunset trail overlook shoot off but too foggy to see. We liked being in nature and getting exercise.

Lovely woods and nice views of Hot Springs and the surrounding mountains. It was December when we went and I loved seeing throo the deciduous trees. You hear traffic on the one side, but the other is quite and ready for a meditation in the leaves.

Solo walk with dog and 3 kids (2,4,6) was a little challenging. It took us 2 hours to walk 2 miles. My kids loved climbing the boulders along the trail. Several runners, hikers, and dogs along the trail on this Saturday morning in November.

I loved this loop. Very well marked and maintained. Nice and gravely so no slipping on wet leaves. Saw tons of deer. Saw no people although it’s a weekday and raining.

My son and I walked this trail on a beautiful fall Sunday afternoon. The ascent to the peak was harder than I expected with an overall difficulty of "moderate", but the trail was well maintained and wide and was a pleasant hike on such a lovely day.

Excellent. Parked at an overlook on West Mountain Dr. Hiked West Mountain South (0.7, rocky), connected to Mountain Top Trail (steep until you get to Sunset), took Sunset to the overlook and back (0.2 each way), continued on Mountain Top, connected to West Mountain Trail North. I’m 300+ lbs and walk 2 miles a day and I was able to complete this with some rest at the overlook and during the steep part of Mountain Top. We saw deer often. I really enjoyed it!
