Shady Lake is full again. And gorgeous! Not sure about the status of the dam, and how long it was out, or when, but it is apparently OK. Just walked a little bit of the trail on the SE of the lake from the dam area. Really gorgeous. Tall Peak is the mountain to the NW looking up Shady Lake. here's a trail up it, click on go to map for a map. http://arkokhiker.org/southwest-arkansas/tall-peak-trail-ouachita-forest/

A lot of storm damage. Not well marked at all. Beautiful day though.

Did this trail friday and joined up with the tall peak trail. Shady lake trail not marked good and very hard to follow. Tall peak marked very well with orange ribbons and yellow blazes. I would suggest skipping lake trail and doing tall peak. Steep climb to fire tower but well worth it.

Great day to hike. The trail does need some maintenance in several areas that have storm damage but we still had a great hike.

It's still a great hike. Lots of damage from previous storms but if you stay focused you can still follow most of the original trail.

The AT map is no good for scenery. It just follows the roads through the campsite areas. When you turn off the Hwy into the campgrounds, on your right is a trail sign saying 'Interpretive Trail'. That will take you through the woods & along a creek at some point. My suggestion is to follow it to the creek & then go along the creek. Keep in mind, there is no trail so you'll have to make your own way. Really can't get lost as long as you follow the creek, which runs into Shady Lake. There are roads that'll lead you back to to your starting point. Just watch your AT map & point the round blue circle with the arrow towards your starting point.

Trail needs a lot of work. Could not complete the entire trial.

There was absolutely no water at the time we went, and the entire lake was a mud hole.

Nice hike. Not marked well. Several trees on trail and some that are hanging that needs to be removed. Beautiful views

I gave this trail a 4 star rating. The trail itself is not very well marked and also not very well maintained but it's still a beautiful hike. I would also say it's a fairly easy hike with the exception of a few stretches that will get your heart-rate going.
