Ouachita Trail: Hwy 298 to Hwy 7 is a 23.7 mile lightly trafficked point-to-point trail located near Story, Arkansas that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, nature trips, and backpacking.
This section of the Ouachita Trail can be hiked over the course of two days. This is a very nice and challenging section. If you check the elevation profile you will see it starts about 300' and climbs to 1961' by the time you get to Ouachita Pinnacle. On your way to the Pinnacle you will have multiple ascents and descents which will add to your total Elevation Gain. An interesting feature of this trail at this time of year is a lot of stick bugs. As insects go, these guys are kind of benign. Plus, they are something completely different for many people visiting the area.
A good Moderate trail. Lots of good up and down. Made about 2 miles in. There are some pretty views of the water too. Ticks are an issue, but that’s AR...
Excellent segment of the OT with several very nice views even with “leaf on”. Hiked from Hwy 298 TH to Blue Mountain Shelter and back. Recorded only the return hike. Took our time on parts of this hike to enjoy the spectacular day, particularly the track above the North Fork of the Ouachita River.
stopped at blue mt shelter. beautiful day. soft tread. Not too steep. better views when leaf off. Great day!
