We were walking the Grand Promenade and stumbled across this trail. It branches off into different routes, all of them taking you to the peak where the observatory is. I’m totally out of shape and did this with some effort, but finished it going up and down. Lots of wildflowers and small critters. We did get a couple of ticks, though. Not too many views, but a great view from the top. You can pay to go up the observatory, or there’s a free observation deck. Will do again if we are ever out that way.

loved this trail. the views close to the hot springs tower are really beautiful. well worth the time it took to find the trail.

Easy and fairly flat. The trail takes you around the top of the mountain where the Mountain Tower is located. Not many scenic outlooks, lots of trees.

Nice easy trail, very green and not much elevation change . Not many people out. Trail was a bit wet but not muddy. Found a tick crawling on our dog even though we stayed on the path.

Enjoyed our time in the Hot Springs NP. Enjoyed some beer at Superior Brewing.

Quiet, lightly trafficked trail on a Monday afternoon. Connects to other overlook trails and is very dog-friendly. Watch out for ticks and biting flies, we stayed on the trail the entire time and still encountered them.

A few steep parts on the way down, but easy trail. Great view from the top of the mountain.

Pretty basic trail. Not scenic at all. Well shaded. Saw some wildlife (deer, armadillo, etc.) Well marked and fairly easy to follow.

Little hillier than what I’d consider an “easy” trail. Could stand to be marked a little better when crossing the roads and trails.

Some steep parts of the trail make this a nice challenge to an easy trail

This trail is about 1.7 miles. Driving up to the mountain, you will head towards the tower (you will see this). Before you get to the tower, you will see a parking lot with bathrooms. Across the road from the bathrooms is where the trail starts. We had a hard time finding it, but once we found it, it is an extremely easy trail. You’ll cross over the road twice before you finish the trail. When the trail clears, there is a gazebo at the top of the hill with a big rock. Once you walk up to this (or you can drive to the gazebo once you finish the trail), you can see the lookout. Make sure to continue the trail after the gazebo, because it is a loop trail. It only took us about 30 minutes to complete the trail. You don’t actually see a hot spring during this hike. As you are driving down the mountain, there is a place where you can fill up your water bottles with cold water at the foot of the mountain on the right hand side.

A great easy, well-kept trail. A tiny bit of it was closed, but that part was easy to get around .

Nice loop with little traffic. Shaded well in the forest and mostly flat. This would be a good family hike.

Loops around the southern summit of Hot Springs Mountain. There are occasional nice views, but the summit road stays near the trail for most of its distance. A good family hike if you are visiting the national park.

From a location standpoint this trail may appear isolated and tied to the tourist oriented lookout tower above downtown Hot Springs. In fact, the hidden trail is very hiker accessible and removed from the crowds, is wooded with mature trees and a cool shaded walk especially using interconnecting trails. We hiked up to it on the northeast side before 11am via the Goat Rock trail [moderate trail with great wooded mountain vistas looking eastward] starting from the Gulpha Springs National Park campground below which itself is situated in a lovely mountain stream gorge. By noon last summer we rounded North Mountain into the afternoon shade of large mixed pine and hardwoods. We descended into the back pool area of Arlington hotel for a late lunch at a local cafe downtown and, then, returning via the shaded Promenade [dashed line] above Bathouse Row, and the lower mtn base trail [ Dead Chief Trail] returning to the Gorge Rd. campground. Except for our brief excursion down to the city center it was all wooded, secluded and traffic free. Despite the scenic mountain drive nearby we did not cross the path cars, or encounter traffic, i.e. see cars and tourists. The trails on this mountain are wonderful way to experience the best of the Hot Springs environment including the springs off the Promenade just walking. We encountered less than a half dozen people on a summer weekday morning on the mountain. Click the other trails overlay on the map to get the connecting trails not show here.
