Getting There

Lake views, dramatic overlook atop rocky cliff, pretty forest trail, 3 benches along the way. Ticks & chiggers not troublesome due to tread width, although one area becomes weedy in late summer. Volunteers maintain this trail once annually in autumn or winter.

Located in campground of Lakeview Park (Corps of Engineers), turn off Highway 178 onto Boat Dock Road, turn right into the campground (not the marina area). Trailhead at top of campground loop.

Trail flooded near beginning due to high water in lake, couldn’t explore past first 1/3 mile.

You need a boat to cross the 1st creek crossing. No signs posted about trail being flooded.

I only made it about a third of a mile before the trail became impassable from high water. I assume in dryer months this is a manageable creek crossing, but at the moment about a 30 ft stretch of trail is under probably 3 or 4 feet of water. Had to turn back.

This is a nicely kept trail that lets you get a little bit of exercise and has a nice spot for a peaceful picnic at the end.

The journey to the end is worth it. A bit rough in parts, but a great hike overall. Lots to look at the entire way.

This trail had my heart racing a couple of times, mostly due to its remoteness further in and being seemingly lightly trafficked. My dog and I tackled this thrill in June and it was slightly overgrown on the final stint toward the bluff. Unfortunately, the lake was really high and the bluff view wasn't in it's full glory, but it was a moderate trek and left us feeling fulfilled inside. Be mindful of ticks!

There wasn't a set place for us to park so we just pulled in next to the dump station- we later realized that we should've paid a 5$ vehicle fee. The hike was promising at first but we soon hit a dead end due to flooding. As of June 25, 2019, the trail was under water about a quarter mile in. The trail was a bit overgrown for me- poison ivy and ticks present.

Pretty view at the end. The hills were spread out so it made it for easier hiking but it was still got my heart rate up a bit.
