Located between Marshall and Yellville, Arkansas, off-trail exploration is permitted and popular in this national park, the Buffalo National River. The park site, Dillard’s Ferry, is one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the state, for paddling the famous Buffalo River and hiking the Buffalo River Trail (BRT). This off-trail loop may possibly be developed in the future as an extension of the BRT, as part of the 700-mile regional Trans-Ozark Trail connecting Fort Smith Arkansas to St. Louis (85% completed).

Go in knowing the portion along the river is definitely a bushwhack. There are some markers when nearing the ascent and along the bluff overlook. Lots of interesting formations and almost a mini hemmed in hollow waterfall when I was there.
