Beautiful trail great hike for new hikers and hikes with children. Note: A portion of the trail around the lake is closed March 1 through Aug. 31 due to bald eagle breeding season.

this trail is great for an afternoon stroll. You can stop and visit the water as much as you would like. highly recommend for a casual walk..picnic would be nice.

Awesome easy hike that still feels like a good workout. Beautiful views. In and out of shade the whole way so you don’t get too hot. Gets busier around mid-day so try to hit this one early or in the afternoon. Did this with my out of shape 71 year old father and he felt it was and easy hike but a bit too long for him—but really this is a hike anyone can do. Park at the over flow parking or the general store for free parking. If you go past the general store parking is $7 for the day.

This was our 1st hike trying out this app. Followed the directions to get here but we couldn't find a trail sign anywhere! Saw people walking around the lake so we just headed out keeping the lake to our left. It's beautiful! Sometimes rocky, I wouldn't bring a wagon or a stroller. We didn't make it all the way around, kids wanted to play in the water too much.

Main parking lot is tiny, overflow parking is available. Don’t park on side of the road you will be tow/ticketed witness this while leaving the trail. The trailapp does have a old trail but the new maintain trail is label with Blue Diamond shape posted on the tress. No one was around when we were hiking Sunday morning 8am.

Pretty easy walk, the lake was beautiful to look at. My dog handled the trail with no issue

Mostly easy to moderate in some spots, decently maintained trail, good tree cover, great nature and views, proper hydration and clothing a must.

Nice hike around the lake. Well signed in some places but the lake is your compass.

2-1/2 mile paddle on a small but pretty lake. Quite crowded on a beautiful Saturday in late October. Well worth the effort. Easy boat ramp put-in.

Wonderful blend of forest and lake views. Varied terrain and some path finding at water crossings (all of which were dry for this October hike). Saw an osprey and a bald eagle. Great morning hike.

Moderate in some spots but my husband and the dogs enjoyed it! Great views at all times of lake!

Pretty trail all around the lake. My dog loved it! Saw a few other people walking and a few other dogs, fair few people fishing. Trail is mostly well marked although we got off it a few times but not hard to find your way back.

Fun trail with kids, but they need to be good hikers. It's longer than it appears, and some of the inlets are pretty remote! There is a great variety of terrain and we love this trail.

Beautiful trail with great Lake views. I would rate it as easy to moderate though. Lots of fun and my dog loved it!

Great hike! Gorgeous view. Dogs are great but need to be kept on leash. Lots of other hikers with big dogs off leash, nothing happened but it can be also dangerous for the dogs as there are some areas where it’s easy to fall. Great view, not a super challenging hike but it’s so worth it! You do have to pay for a day pass, it was $7 today. SO worth it!!! You can also dip your feet in the water or swim if you’re brave to swim in the cold!

Fun shady trail around the lake. A great way to enjoy the lake without all the noise. Even when it’s busy trail is quiet. Great to fish on opposite side too where no one really is. Just use bathroom before heading up there. They are stinky gross and no toilet paper

Great for the kids. Trail is about 4.4 miles. Some areas were difficult for our 4 year old but otherwise a beautiful hike.

Nice hike. Not sure about other posts disputing the mileage. On my watch, which for me has been very accurate, around the lake from the store was exactly 3.8 miles. Including back and forth from the upper overflow lot, 4.2. I would say the poster who said 5.8 miles is either thinking reviewers are using km, or their app is set to km. I would give 5 stars for a good workout for someone out of shape (me), but 4 stars because of the insanely busy weekend on The Rim, and especially on the lake. I would highly recommend going earlier in the year or later in the year to run into fewer people and fewer barking dogs straining at their leashes. I started around 10 am and had to park in half full overflow. By the time I finished, overflow 110% full.

One of my favorite places in Arizona. The lake is always busy but not a lot of traffic on the hiking trail especially when you hit the opposite side of the lake from the marina and parking lots. Trail is longer than advertised. FWIW we clocked 5.8 total miles on today’s hike (not 3.8). Also a section of the trail is closed until August due to the Bald Eagles nest site. You have to scuttle the shoreline (unmarked) for roughly 3/4 of a mile before picking back up on the east end of the lake. Still one of the most scenic hikes around!

An easy, meandering hike through the pines with beautiful views of the lake.

Look for a couple with a scope at a picnic table by the Spillway campground, close to the dam. They’re there every weekend watching over and protecting a bald eagle nest across the lake. They’ll share info and show you the nest & baby with the scope. Super cool surprise!
