Peaceful and beautiful. I didn’t notice how much I went down hill on the way in so the way back surprised me how much up hill there was going out! It wasn’t hard but unexpected, so thought I’d note that for others.

HikingFeeGreat!

Great trail. Some switch backs and a bit up and down but not too bad. You can see a great view of the canyon without the crowds closer to the Grand Canyon Lodge. Very shady and wooded. Some climbing over small boulders.

Great hike with not too much foot traffic. Only did the shorter hike due to time but the full hike seems totally worth it.

Great easy hike with several great views of the Grand Canyon North Rim. Lots of shade. At the midpoint of the trail is a really great view, but is close to the edge, so not for those who are afraid of heights.

HikingGreat!

This was an awesome hike, my boyfriend and I only had the morning to hike in the North Rim and decided this would be a great hike. We went a little longer than the short option provided and we saw an incredible view of the canyon. It is mostly shaded and mostly even and pretty perfect for someone with asthma like me! I would highly recommend for someone with not a lot of time in the N. Rim

This trail is a beautiful forested stroll with several spots to look into the canyon. Even if your short on time or not up for a long hike, a short walk will give you a great experience. We were leaving the N. Rim so only had a couple hours. We hiked in for about 1.25 miles where the trail arrives at a forested out cropping where you have a splendid view. The trail is well marked and easy for all levels to that point. Plenty of trees.

Don’t miss this hike. We only went part way and it was spectacular. Easy hike. Not many people. Nice views of the canyon. You have to drive a mile on a dirt road to the trail head.

For those with limited time, this is a must trail on the north rim. It gets you close with several view points. The short option is relatively level with minor dips as you cross three creeks. There is nothing to concern on this trail. It is well used and maintained. The North Rim, in our perspective, is a more "intimate" experience of the grand canyon.

Amazing trail! Has several beautiful views of the canyon and the walk through the pines is gorgeous and peaceful. We didn’t hike the whole thing, but it was pretty easy— no difficult rocks to climb over and the path was well kept. Would highly suggest if you have the time.

Do not miss this hike! Besides going down into the canyon, this was our best hike. There are several great viewpoints along the trail of the rim but also the hike through the pines is also beautiful. The trail is long enough along the rim that there are at least 4-5 different views you'll see down into the canyon. When you come to the end of the trial, your view of the canyon will be totally different than when you started.

Round trip. The first 2 miles give you already nice views on the grand Canyonland n north rim. Total hike = 6 miles x 2

First to Review

Widforss trail was my favorite hike while at the North Rim. There are several switchbacks at the beginning before the trail settles into a pattern of flat areas and (mostly) sloping ups and downs. There is a nice guided tour component with a pamphlet that you can pick up at the trail head. We only did the short version, to the end of the guided tour, but will definitely go out all the way to Widforss point next time. The trail is forested by ponderosa pines, so it is shady and cool most of the time. The views were breath taking, with places to stop and see the three buttes and the transept. You can go off trail to get a better look if you aren’t afraid of close proximity to the canyon edge. There is a restroom at the trail head, but no water available. It is worth it to start early, so you miss many of the other hikers, and get to be out alone in the splendor of the forest.
