Though short, this trail to one of the summits on the Dixie Mountain Loop can be fairly difficult. There are great views from the top as well as a birds eye view of the gravel pit below.

Awesome hike! Wonderful views at the summit of the Western Vista Trail. Definitely well worth the climb. About 10 people on the trail that I saw about 8:40 starting.

We enjoyed this trail system so much we returned for a second hike in less than one week. Beautiful desert flora and a nesting owl (she was visible in the nest both times and we caught a glimpse of a baby!) made for a magical hiking experience.

This was such a great hike! We took our 3 year old Germain/Belgian pupper and she loved it! Amazing views and not a lot of people on the trail so it was awesome!! I’d put this hike as easy, however the last bit was a killer incline and a bit tricky to get down with an excited pup on your heels so take your time! There were also a bunch of mountain bikers so if ya see them, scoot over for them!! Also, we saw an amazing owls nest with an owl in it right off the trail. So. Amazing.

If you bring a dog beware of the cholla! My dog got too close to a cholla and got spines in his nose and tongue. It was awful. It took pliers to get them out.

This is one of three summit trails in this part of the Sonoran Preserve. It is only accessible from the Dixie Mountain Loop Trail. Obviously being a summit trail it is strenuous but you are rewarded with awesome views of the valley and the gravel pit that is immediately to the west. A small memorial has been built at the summit.
