Getting There

A flat walk with stunning views of the canyon. There are several shuttle stops along the way, allowing you to pick and chose the areas you want to explore. Leashed pets are allowed on the trail, but not on the shuttle busses so plan accordingly. From many of the overlooks, you will have unrestricted views to the other side of the canyon, and sometimes as far as 40 miles along the canyon. If you are looking for a place to stop to watch the sunset, try Hopi point (although if it is too crowded, try nearby Mohave Point). The Canyon is best seen during the golden hours (the hour after sunrise and before sunset), when the light is low and the canyon walls turn into amazing shades of red and orange.

Arizona Office of Tourism, 2702 N. 3rd St., Suite 4015 , Phoenix, AZ, 85004, Phone: 888-520-3434, Fax: 602-240-5432, mfioritt@pni.com

Bring water and good walking shoes, and don't forget your camera. Take the free NPS shuttle to one of the stops along the trail.

Directions from South Entrance Station: Follow South Entrance Road northward to a junction with East Rim Drive. Bear left at this junction and drive .5 miles to Mather Point.

Spectacular views. Mostly flat trail. Went on June 10 2020 and because of covid the park was not particularly crowded. South rim trial is busy around the lodges, but starting at Bright Angel trailhead and heading westward it was nearly desolate. Beautiful walk along the canyon rim. We went to Hopi point and turned around for about 3 miles round trip. Views obtained for the exertion required are ridiculous.

This hike offers magnificent views from all the designated points. Currently, until 5 June 2020, no shuttle buses are running and no cars are allowed past the barricades so this hike is very peaceful. It starts west of the Village and extends to Hermit's Rest so you can avoid the big crowds at the Village. Hike all the way to Hermit's Rest (about 8 miles one way) for a nice hike or turn around anywhere you desire. Again, this hike offers incredible views from the Rim and is less crowded than the Village. Bring water and wear a hat.

We were here when the nps wasn’t offering their shuttle from bright angel and were hoping cars would be able to go to the end. No buses or cars due to covid though we saw several cars and a rv that ran the barricade and went by headed west as we hiked the rim. Awesome views and not one person on the trail. Definitely socially distanced! Wished we could have driven to the end and hiked out of there. Hope the nps will rethink their cars policy during the covid ordeal.

Good hike. Only steep at very beginning. After Hopi overlook, trail becomes dirt trail. Really good views at Mohave view point.

Useless to do it all the way. The best part is on the west side because you are on the edge of the canyon. Do not fall!!

This trail is easy to hike. We started at Pike Creek Vista and ended at Hermits Rest. It took us 7 plus hours to complete 13 miles. That included a lot of stops for photos and rests. If one wanted to hike just a bit of the trail, the shuttle service in the park is phenomenal!

This was a nice easy hike/walk along the Grand Canyon. The view was amazing and there are several spots to stop and rest with shops at the end. If you want a nice leisurely walk, I would recommend this trail for you.

In the words of Ron Swanson, "Crying is only acceptable at funerals and the Grand Canyon." This might be the most beautiful place in the whole world. Certainly not a hike, but trails are very well maintained and surprisingly not that crowded once you start getting away from Mather Point. Go any time of the year for different views and be sure to stay for sunset.

Perfect trail for anyone. Did most of it twice in one day. Started early and other than bus driver, I saw no other humans out there for the whole trip. Went back about 8am to get the family. Definitely more people out there after 8 am but still enjoyable. Can hike (more of a walk) entire route, or on/off bus as you please. Restrooms at Hopi Point & Hermit’s Rest stops. Bus drivers are friendly and knowledgeable. Must do in my book!

We’re alive....We made it out! On the 100th anniversary of Grand Canyon National Park the legend of Randy Shrauner grows. Randy & I have been doing crazy things together since 1977 and none crazier than hiking 52.1 miles R2R2R through the Grand Canyon for Randy’s 60th Birthday. Along with our friend David Penland, whom we’ve known since ‘77, and was happy he decided at the last minute to join us, the three of us headed off to celebrate. R2R2R means you hike from the south rim of the Grand Canyon to the north rim then back to the south rim. It’s a internationally famous classic back country hike. One for the bucket list as long as you don’t kick the bucket.

Hike this if you want to continually pick your jaw up off the ground from views so breathtaking that you can't believe they're real. An easy flat hike that does have some muddy areas currently, as we hiked through rain and snow, but has paved sections as well. The Canyon was full of moments of fog today that was absolutely incredible. Long stretches of trail where you get to walk steps away from the edge without railing.

Good walking path. Lots of great views. We started at the visitor center and walked to Mohave Point on the red bus route. My Garmin clocked about 6.5 miles. We hopped on the bus there to go back as we were pretty tired and had 1.5 hour drive ahead of us to where we were staying. Easy path. Not difficult. Once you get past the bright angel trailhead, it gets pretty quiet on the trail and you don’t see many people.

We walked the whole thing, which clocked in at more like 15 miles at the end of the day with all the lookout points and whatnot. It’s not hiking; it’s walking at a well-marked and often paved path. Stunning views. Can do all of it or any portions you want with the free shuttle situation.

Not really much of a hike here... but it’s the Grand Canyon so it gets 5 stars by default. Lots of good places to pull yourself to an overlook and enjoy the scenery.

stunning views, but it's not really a trail. it's a paved walk around the edge of the canyon hence why I have only rated it three stars.

Ideal for families and anyone with disabilities because a good portion of this trail is paved. If you're a hiker, it's not a hike, it's a walk. ...but a walk with epic views.
