Nice hike. Lots of thorns and downed trees. Area is recovering from the 2011 fire.

Combined this with the Thompson Trail to complete a 9.6 mile round trip hike. After the beauty of the Thompson Trail, this was less spectacular. Very easy trail overall, with some rocky inclines. No views of the actual river until the end of the trail, 2.3 miles from the trailhead. Thousands of dead burned trees, with a number of them lying across the trail. However, there are thousands of new young aspens growing, currently about 3 to 4 feet tall, which will turn into a beautiful aspen forest in a few years. This is a great hike when combined with the Thompson Trail, but by itself, it's just ok.

Combined this trail with the West Fork Black River trail to create a 9.6 mile round trip hike. Thompson trail is incredibly beautiful, very easy, and very photogenic. The river is so peaceful and calming. A lot of stops for pics.

This trail had not been maintained and is essentially impassible at places. Overgrown with thorn bushes and rock slides, and washed up debris.

Some parts very pretty, but most all the trees are burned down!!! :(. Pretty easy hike with a beautiful river at the end.
