I would recommend this trail for mountain goats. North side is steep and requires some bouldering. Otherwise, lot of varied terrain, but mostly jagged rocks. I would not choose it for a trail run.

Waddell and Ford Canyon This is a nice easy walking trail for family. Don't confuse it with the large Ford Canyon Trail Loop, that one is hard. Bring lots of water for each person. There is no shade. In spring there are great seating/picnic areas. It too hot in the summer to use them. There are restrooms available as well.

The first two miles were super easy. Dog and kid friendly. The last mile is rocky and beautiful, probably wouldn’t take young kids on the last mile, most of it narrow trails overlooking a beautiful but significant drop.

The first two is a piece of cake but once the trail starts to ascend it starts getting more bouldering. Loser to the top is where one starts to scramble more. Still fun and picturesque.

This is a good hike with lots of scenery for those not ready or short on time to do the 10.6 mile loop. This goes from the parking lot to the start of the wash which is considered difficult terrain. Your required to scale a near vertical 12' slab at the exit from the wash if traveling counter clockwise. So this hike gets you into great scenery without the commitments of the entire loop. This is a out and back hike. Suggest extra clothing and water and sturdy hiking boots and hiking poles. Wearing tennis shoes is asking for trouble even though some get away with them.

A very nice wide trail, well travelled with pretty views. Could do this with family, young and old.

A very beautiful trail overall. The Waddell portion is easy. When the trail becomes Ford Canyon about a mile from the parking lot, the trail rates between easy and moderate. But it is the last ¾ mile (after the Caution sign) that offers a challenge. It would rate between moderate and hard and is a slow go. You’ll need your arms to climb certain passages. Tough, but fun!

The first part is pretty level, and you don’t start climbing until almost 2 miles out. Once you start climbing up the rocks, there will be some shade in the morning. Saw my first rattle snake this morning.
