Did after it rained, so there were a lot of flying ants and flies at the top, but also dragonflies. Overall it was a really enjoyable hike. Mostly easy desert walking until the great horned owl trail and union peak trails where it gets a little steeper and a little rocky. Great views!

Good hike in the Phoenix Sonoran Preserves. It was a hot day in late May for a hike this long, but it was worth it!
I had never been to Union Peak before, only Dixie in the area. To get there, you take trails like Hawksnest, Desert Tortoise, Valle Verde, Great Horned Owl, and finally Union Peak. I'd come back again on a cooler day after a rain, it must be really beautiful then!
Oh, and the log book at the top was really cool to sign. Nice touch!
