There are some great views but the trail is overgrown and terribly marked. We had the AllTrails map up most of the way but frequently ended up off the trail. Be prepared to backtrack. Recommend wearing pants due to lots of cactus and thorny plants next to the “trail”.

Loved this trail - good workout and you get beyond the houses into the Saguaro National Park. This trail is definitely a backcountry trail - keep your AllTrails map in easy reach cause there are some missing trail markers.

This trail is a workout! We set out with every intention of completing the loop, but we were just too spent to do so. (Maybe next time.) The the is not well-marked, but previous hikers have done a great job utilizing rocks to mark the path. The views are incredible! Watch for the crested cactus and the two abandoned mines along this trail (see my pics). No facilities are close, so be sure to plan accordingly. Oh, and bring your trekking poles!

DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED! Very DISAPPOINTED TO DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO TRAILHEAD AND NOT BE ABLE TO HIKE.
ALLTRAILS APP DOES NOT HAVE CURRENT INFO!

The east end of the loop has not been used in years! But if you actually follow closely to trail and the map it is a great adventure and worth exploring!

This western half of this trail is good until after it joins the Gila Monster Trail. At the point where the Gila Monster continues north and you’re supposed to leave it and head southeast, the trail peters out and all but disappears. With the help of the downloaded AllTrails map, we were able to find remnants of the old trail but most of it was overgrown and basically gone.
