The Sweetwater Preserve is a 703.26 acre preserve located west of Tucson in the eastern foothills of the Tucson Mountains of Southern Arizona. Within approximately one-half mile of the Preserve are Saguaro National Parks Tucson Mountain District and a biological research preserve owned by the University of Arizona. Tucson Mountain Park is also located a short distance to the south. The lands that comprise the Sweetwater Preserve were acquired using money from the 2004 Open Space Bond Measure. The community strongly supported acquisition of this property and worked diligently to realize the establishment of this preserve. The natural-surface Sweetwater Trailhead is located at the southern end of Tortolita Road. The preserve is open dawn to dusk. Dogs are permitted on leash.

The trail is definitely one of our favorites now! The flowers are blooming and the views are amazing! Our bodies felt a little sore and off today, so I'd say the trails were an in between of easy to moderate. Mind you, my husband carries our 2 1/2 year old in a hiking carrier (about an extra 40 pounds), I'm 22 weeks pregnant, and breaking in new hiking boots. Definitely hiking this one again soon!

Everything is in bloom right now, yay! Not over-populated, lots of dogs and bikers but all courteous! Overall a nice, pretty easy loop with a breeze!

My new favorite trails!!!!

Fun views! It’s a great trail to take dogs on.

Beautiful hike - however I would rate the trail easy for hikers. There are a few rocky spots but nothing strenuous. Well marked and maintained trails. 3 stars due to the unexpected ease of this hike.

The spine has some technical climbs over rocks, good intermediate section. Desperado loop has a nice flow and is mostly smooth. Desperado is the fun part.

Not for a beginner mountain bike rider. Lots of rocks to climb. I guess that’s what moderate means!

This trail was beautiful! Ended on a high note of beautiful wildflowers in full bloom! Will do it again.

Really gorgeous area and a well designed trail system that allows for a variety of routes. Some rocky areas, but well maintained overall with good signage. Great place to walk your dog, though there are no facilities at the trailhead--not so much as a trashcan--so be prepared to pack out waste. Plenty of parking, though, which is good, as this seems to be a popular spot.

Beautiful hike amongst the saguaros. Very nice for families, dogs, and mountain bikes. I would rate it easy to moderate due to the rocky spots at times.
