As of April 20, 2020, users have reported that the Dragonfly trail is closed and that will limit your ability to take the full Spur Cross Loop. Fee: $3 This Spur Cross loop is the most popular and easiest hike of the Spur Cross Conservation Area. The views are spectacular and the Solar Oasis is an interesting place to discover. This hike is ideal as a quick and easy loop, crossing cave creek (which is often running) several times. The desert scenery is amazing, very lush with giant saguaros. The Solar Oasis is an unexpected conservation area with an Ironwood replanting area opposite.

Went in early spring when the creek was flowing. Took Dragonfly to Spur Cross. Beautiful diverse terrain if you do the whole thing - wildflowers, cacti, grasses, snakes, birds, creek to splash in. Go during the week to avoid crowds.

Great hike, we had to take an alternate trail because Dragon Fly was closed, the creek was pretty much dry. Even still, it was absolutely beautiful.

Nice trail. Not too rocky. Could not complete loop because Dragonfly Trail is closed; but turned around and still did 5 miles Next time we will do Spur/Metate/Tortuga— but probably not til the fall

Nice hike ...had young kids with me so adjusted length of trail to accommodate them by cutting through metate trail. Roughly 2.5 miles. Nice scenic trail.

loved the trail but dragonfly was closed and that limited our ability to take the full spur cross loop. over-all awesome and such a blast for the kiddos! ...saw a rattle snake, so be mindful.

Of all the new trails we have tried this year, this was my favorite. Monster saguaros, beautiful views, flowing creek in March, a mesquite bosque, this loop has a lot of variety. A little busier than we would have liked on a weekend, but plan to return on a weekday and run the easier sections.

Thought this would be a great day to hike this trail but the rain the past few days made it impossible to cross the creek at the first crossing. Instead, we took the trail that goes down to the creek and sat and listened to the rushing water. The saguaros are giant down in there- so beautiful! Lots of yellow flowers and the weather is perfect! Still a great hike - one of my favorites- you won’t be disappointed!

One of my favorite hikes. You will approach 3,000 feet of total elevation, but their are no overly steep areas. Great views all along the way and you will cross a nice stream after walking through some wild flower patches.

trail is in really good condition well-maintained the trail markers are well-marked... when you do have to cross over the creek there are little walkways in the event that there is water there... some rocks on the trail but mostly very nice on your feet. dog friendly on the leash..$3 per person taken at the trailhead by Park rangers.. they have water to purchase if necessary and t-shirts and hats..

Folks that say there is a loop here are wrong. you would have to use other trails to make a loop, this is just a trail. My wife, beagle and I went all the way out to 5.5 miles then realized there is no loop. we always pack for day hikes so we were prepared. if you go thinking Spur cross has a loop, you would end up walking forever onto other trails. The views are nice, low shade though. it also costs $3.00 a day to hike.

Great hike, stuck to the Metate Trailhead as it was still 101 degrees. Plenty of shade and a nice surprise to see a solar powered pond with lilies 2/3 way in. Very well maintained. the creek beds are all dried up right now (really dry monsoon season) but I could easily see this place washing out. highly recommend. the Metate Trail took us 90 mins and that was also taking a sit down up the dead end climb of "Mariposa Hill".

A great trail not to hard not to easy, inclines were nice and manageable, the terrain is beautiful and so many opportunities for pictures. Walking across a little stream was perfect.. 2.5 hours for this loop was just right. If you want a nice hike, get the heart pumping at times and a surrounding desert landscape that is awesome, this is your place.

Such a perfect time of year to see the back country/desert ❤️. Cactus in bloom. Tall, wispy grass for the ponies to nibble on. Several crossings over Cave Creek, so be sure you’re dressed properly or your pony will cross! There’s plenty of shady places to stop and have lunch, rest. Not too many open trails to gallop if that’s your thing, but sooo worth the investment. *Can be busy.

The trail was well maintained and clean. The washes still had a lot of water that our dog played around in for some time. It was more crowded than we expected but with lots of trails it wasn’t too bad. Only downside was getting stuck behind a horse tour. We went on one of the side trails for a water break and a snack to let them get ahead of us. All in all it was a beautiful trail in a beautiful day.

Went after record snowfall and wash was not crossable. Only hiked 1/3 way, was beautiful. Will return to complete.
