SP Crater is a 2.9 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Flagstaff, Arizona that offers scenic views and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips and is best used from April until October.
The angle of assent is steep and the trail is faint at best. Volcanic rocks and pebbles make footing tricky. Count on back sliding quite a bit. Like climbing up a steep sand dune. The view from the top is amazing. You can see the lava field that spread northwest. You can see the rim of the Grande Canyon. Beautiful view of the San Francisco range. The descent is easy and rather quick in comparison. Just side slip back down. Try to follow a trail to avoid unnecessary erosion.
