HikingGreat!

Nice hike, definitely less known, although seemed to be very popular for mountain bikers. Plenty of parking at trailhead. Great views of Cathedral Rock at several points, particularly on the Pyramid trail piece. I went clockwise on the loop, which I think was better as there were a couple of steep scrambly bits that seemed easier climbing up then they might have been to go down. You really do need to watch for bikers as there are parts where they are coming fast and will be hard pressed to stop.

RunningGreat!

I came here to trail run on a Thursday morning, starting around 7:30AM. The sun was just rising and it was slightly cloudy, and the trail was patted down probably due to rain a few days ago so there was less red dust floating around. Views were pretty good, going back was a bit steep for a run though. Didn't see many people although saw one biker near the Scorpion parking lot.

The view starts right at the start and is jaw dropping at every step. I've hiked many trails in this area, and this ranks at the top. We found out that the difficulty on Pyramid Loop would be less if we took the counter-clockwise direction, because of the steep climb up around the last quarter of the trail. The photo opportunities of Cathedral Rock are epic and we could not quit stopping to get every angle of the formation, especially with the clouds and sunlight casting shadows and highlights it. I had never seen it from this viewpoint and told my partner that I could hike this trail all day long!

I’ve done dozens of trails in Sedona and this one might be my favorite. Do the full loop counter-clockwise for the best views. Enjoy!

HikingGreat!

I will admit I am an easy grader as every hike in Sedona this week has been gorgeous and different. I like to sweat a little and work my legs but not be breathless, so not sure that I should be listed as "pro" but there you have it. From West Sedona you go on the Upper Loop behind the HS and turn in after the main parking lot (still a HS parking lot). Once in the HS the trail lot is to the left and does NOT have bathrooms. The trail has a little shade and is narrow. You must be listening in case you need to move quickly for bikers. We went mid week around 230pm and saw a total of 10 hikers and 4 bikers. The Scorpion trail has trees and plants and some views, though not super close to the red rocks they are still pretty. You can hear the road a little if there are some trucks, but not when you get to the loop part. We then took Pyramid off to the right (to make the loop). We really liked Pyramid as you got closer to the rocks and the views were good. A lot of pyramid was sun at that time of day, but that was okay. It seemed like our return on Scorpion had a good amount of uphill. We took an hour and fifty minutes for a distance of 4.4 with a 596 ft elevation gain. We loved that this one did not have many people and it is quick and easy off 89a. If I only had an afternoon and didn't want to deal with traffic I would do this and Red Rocks Crossing (at Crescent Moon).

HikingGreat!

Our new favorite trail. Went around 10 am on Wednesday and passed less than 10 people. Not crowded and that’s what we were looking for. Started at the high school parking lot, took Scorpion down, took a right for Pyramid and caught Scorpian back up to make the loop. The views on Pyramid are gorgeous. Highly recommend it, at the same time, want to keep it a secret so it stays less crowded .

Another Fun Sedona hike which no one frequents except locals. One of two trail heads to catch from the high school. We did the loop with a 9 yr old and two large packs with two infants under 2.

Beautiful views. Nice, moderate trail. I ran 3/4 of the trail in and hiked the rest. Went during midday August heat, probably not the smartest thing to do, but the trail was quiet. Stopped to enjoy the views, peace and solitude. Well worth the visit. Mixture of trees (scarce for shade), dirt and rock. Just beautiful.

Excellent views most of the 4 miles. Loved it! Start early as this time of the year it gets really hot and shade is sparse at noon. And bring lots of water.
