I recently did this hike with an amazing guy with big brown eyes so expressive that he can have an entire conversation without words. It was supposed to be a sunset hike, but we went pretty early, because I like hanging out with him too much to have waited any longer. To many, this trail might not seem like the most “scenic” in Sedona, the small city with almost 200 trails to pick from. But when you’re with someone like him, every trail becomes a little more special.
You’ll be hiking over crushed black rocks, through low shrubs and prickly pears, with tall grasses lining the path. Keep an eye out for the alien landing site immediately off the trail to the left. Look to the East for panoramic views of Sedona’s famous red rock formations, and to the West for clear sights of Cottonwood and Clarkdale. Most importantly though, look behind you at the great hiking partner you choose to share the experience with.
Warning: no matter how nice they are to look at, remember to occasionally check the trail in front of you too. This is easier to do when said hiking partner also makes great conversation.
