Getting There

Neighborhood trail part of the Phoenix Parks and Recreation department but one of the lesser known trails that remains officially unnamed. You can go around the mountain or over the mountain. Mostly flat with lose sand and gravel. Makes mountain biking a challenge. There are some hills and boulders to navigate and the ascent up the mountain is very rocky. Lots of coyotes and jack rabbits in this park.

Parking for 5 or 6 cars.

Loop 101 to Cave Creek Cave Creek north to Rose Garden West on Rose Garden Road ends at trail head

Nice trail. Moderate due to the rocky terrain and verticals.

Great little climb that is close to the city with great views. Have hiked it twice in a week and not crowded. I have done the loop and up and over and back over. Good little workout. Easy to get off trail, but just use your map.

Wow, no markings whatsoever, app is a necessity. I enjoyed it though. Some parts runnable.

For as short as this Loop is, you’ll get plenty of uphill in there. Not the best footing, but that adds to the challenge. This time I hit the trail at the hottest part of the day. Not ideal, but still doable.

It’s a nice hike but the trails are not marked well at all. It’s hard to know where you are going or if you at even on a path.

Great trail, would recommend doing the loop clockwise. If you want more of a workout, take the shortcut path to the right when you’re going through the residential neighborhoods and it goes uphill at a steep incline. Great sunset views!

Nice afternoon hike. Met two rattlesnakes. Both small and eager to rattle.

Really enjoyed this one. Bit more challenging than it looks, but nothing you can't handle. Loose gravel though isn't my favorite thing to deal with, so just be careful. Nice crosswinds, and some cool spots coming down the backside. Got 5.2 miles out of this going up and over, around, up again, then to the southern peak. Will probably become a staple hike for me. Dig it!

Would definitely start clockwise next time rather than counterclockwise, counterclockwise would have been a nice steady uphill vs the alternative. Nice climb but not too crazy. Enjoyed the random rock climbing oops. Also saw my first rattler of the year! Will go back :)

A very sneaky trail tucked off the 101, surrounding a beautiful N Phoenix neighborhood. There are a number of intersecting trails here, easy to get confused, but if you use your AllTrails app, you can keep to the trail you have selected. Mostly great views, with a deceptive workout. It doesn't seem very tall nor strenuous, but some good inclines and numerous dips make for a great workout. A lot of wildlife on the trail, numerous lizards abound.

Excellent views on top. A bit of a scramble at times for seniors but well with it particularly for such a convenient hike. Lots of intersecting trails to fool you.

The best part about thus trail is that it’s narrow and rocky enough that mountain bikers don’t use it. Always a good quick climb — nice variety of up and down through the second half.

Good workout on this sometimes steep trail. No one on the trail on this cold day. Not for anyone that doesn’t have strong climbing legs.

An easy 3 mile loop. You start out and very quickly go up hill. At the fork in the trail which is on the saddle go right and head uphill. The loop comes back around to the saddle. Fun and quick hike

Quick ascent with some small boulders combined with loose granite gravel makes for careful footing for most of this hike. Fun and steep enough to make this short trail worth hitting.

Scrambles and steep decline with loose rocks. Confusing non-trail areas. The first ascent going anti-clockwise was pretty fun.

Once you learn the trail this one is prime for a night hike. Beautiful views of the city both day and night. Can be accessed off of Cave Creek and Rose Garden as well.
