My GPS showed 12.75 miles and 1950 feet of climbing. The start is a 4X4 road up to the loop through mostly a sandy wash. The loop itself is beautiful—I have done it before from the Dove Mountain side. Did this in December, it is very miserable during the hot months. Cool windmill and solar powered stock tanks..one at the start and one at the loop begin/end. No hikers but a few mountain bikers. AllTrails map helped as trails not on my GPS. Excellent maintained trails with good signage. I plan to return with my bike.
Overall, a beautiful, isolated but close by hike through the tortolitas.
The rub? The trailhead is just a cattle guard but YOU NEED HIGH CLEARANCE to drive the 5 mile dirt road to get to it. No 4X4 needed, but huge ruts rule out low-slung vehicles.
