This is a fantastic easy trail for a sunset. It offers some pretty decent encounters with saguaros and wildflowers but this hike is all about the views. I definitely recommend taking the extra trail that goes beyond the published trail. It’s a little unclear where it ends but just stay on the rocky terrain and you should be good.

Kind of a dud today. We didn’t make it to the view and it was hot, exposed, and without great views. Mostly walking slowly across the desert b/c we didn’t make it to the scramble and view. Would try again but not til next winter.

Quick easy trail for when you don’t have a lot of time. Great view at the end.

Great trail...listed as moderate but on the easier side of moderate. Took a family with us that hadn’t been out in a while and they said it was perfect for getting back into hiking. Has some great views along the way as well

Wife and I hiked the trial 17 Jan starting about 9:30 in the AM. A very enjoyable hike, easy hike with engaging scenery and a really nice rock ledge at the end of the trail. We ended up hiking a bit beyond the official trail since as well trodden path continued on for perhaps 150 ft. Weather was great 70's which worked well since this trail has no to little shade. The trail is well worn so and for the most part easy terrain. Towards the end their is about 80 ft loose gravel path with an aggressive grade, this was the only section I had to focus on footing. The flora along the trail is awesome combined with beautiful views of the various mountain ranges. I had this as an easy hike, well groomed trail. Lots of evidence of horses having used the trial. Met no other hikers until we were headed back towards the end (around 11:00). Plan to hike gain, and perhaps lunch on the rock cropping at the trail end. Oh yeah.. parking for about 6 cars at the trailhead. we were the only car at 09:00 but upon leaving all but one slot full.

Easy trail, view at top was spectacular. I believe this trail is longer than advertised, however. Lots of horse poop on trail. Can be completed in 1.5 hours or less

The trail outline detailed on the app’s map leaves out the best views. If you continue north past the end of the soft, sandy trail, it gets rocky and tight. Continue until you twist and turn and find yourself cresting the uphill walk and onto a nice rounded, smoothed rock end. Gets you closer to the foot of the Tanque Verde Ridge, and higher for fantastic views all around!

Lovely little trail with a peaceful place to sit at the end, but the last section isn’t marked well. If you go all the way to the end, it’s a bit difficult to pick up the trail on the way back.

With medium-sized kids, I'd really rate this "moderate" rather than "easy". There was a fair amount of whining on the way up, and I did end up carrying both of their hydration backpacks because "IT'S TOOO HARD!!!". With that being said, the hike was manageable because the trail is so short (1 mile up) and the view is a great pay-off at the end. Speaking of "the end," I'm not sure we made it to the very end. We stopped where the trail plateaued (1 mile in) with a sweeping view of the valley. But I could see a much narrower beaten path that seemed to go on a little higher. There was no bribe large enough to get the kids to check it out, though. Oh well...maybe next time.
