This trail is not worth it until the developers finish their work building all the houses. Maybe two more years? You have to walk about a mile just to get to the trailhead, and the trail is not that spectacular. The only interesting thing I saw was an abundance of white rock. Just about any other trail nearby and/or in the McDowell Mountains would be a better choice. Don’t bother.

A break in the weather this weekend so we got out and had a great hike. Last hike probably til September I’m imagining. Time to bike!

Wasn’t too difficult, would recommend going counter clockwise. Lots of ants & bugs. Pretty secluded which was nice.

Trailhead was closed, but we parked on the street and walked about a mile in through a construction site (they had already taken off for the day). Had to scramble/climb up an almost completely vertical dirt wall and leap over a three foot dip in the ground to get to the trailhead, but finally made it! Unfortunately it was getting dark and it took almost an hour just to get to the trailhead so we walked for a half hour or so then turned around before it got too steep. Came across a rattler on the construction site and a garter snake on the trail. Will definitely go back and try again a little earlier. I think it’s best to go counterclockwise rather than the alternative.

Beautiful day for taking the western loop. Got a little warm as we approach the top. The flowers are the best they’ve been so far. Only saw two people in three hours and one was with me. The weeds of overgrown the trail because of lack of use. 2 miles of this 4.4 mile trek is on the access road to trail head

Beautiful day for hiking low 60s. Still wish the trail head parking was open instead of wasting time walking two miles on a dirt road.

First to Review

this is a great hike. the western loop portion is rated double diamond (extremely difficult) by mcdowell preserve and is a good challenge. the promenade portion is easy going. nice views, lots of wildflowers.
