Everyone close enough should make at least four trips a year down this terrific scenic highway. You will see the high desert and desert plants alongside the road in each season. But the best time, if you have only ONE trip to take is the spring. Check out the wildflowers, including a short trip down Cactus Forest Road when you get to that turn-off. Check out whether wildflowers are in bloom first. My record is for the time I got to take great pictures. I would have given it 5 stars a few years ago, but more development and less attention to keeping up the roadside make it less than it used to be - still good, though.
