Many hikers head for the hills in search of solitude, but if you're planning to hike to the summit of Piestewa Peak you'd do better to bring with you your community spirit - this is a very busy trail. Hikers, walkers, sightseers and runners alike flock to this prominent peak like moths to a flame, drawn here in part because of it proximity to the city of Phoenix. Despite the crowds this mountain can still be a lot of fun, especially when you extend your adventure along the much less travelled Circumference Trail which traces a flanking route around the mountain. Parking is a challenge, as is understanding the parking restrictions that prevail. Please note the entrance to the parking lot closes at 7pm. The Park does not close until 11pm.

Definitely hard but great hike! Very rocky. Wear good shoes!

Lovely climb to the summit. The freedom loop was a nice way to add more mileage but was fairly mild elevation. Careful of your footing throughout. Very busy trail!

great strenuous hike. Just way too many people. Don't go on a weekend if you can avoid it.

Bathrooms on site. Bring water especially if in the summer months. If summer time I would hike early or later in afternoon. Most of trail is clear. Very busy and frequented spot. Lots of people. View is gorgeous. I see people hiking with small children but I do not recommend it. Although short very steep at parts that would be hard for small child. The summit is scrambling up steep sections. Water and good shoes are essential. Great view from the top. Good quick strenuous work out. It took me about 45min to get up to summit that was with taking few short breaks.

No dogs. Nice hike. Recommend doing the peak first because then you can decide if you want to do the rest after. Peak has best views. Terrain is pretty static, but you see some cool older saguaros If you do the full loop (this is called trails #302).

I would recommend this trail to advanced hikers. It has steep incline in some areas and there is lots of wildflowers and cacti. It is only heavily trafficked near the beginning but feels secluded near the end

This trail is highly trafficked only in the 300 leg then it’s beautiful and you can enjoy the silence of the desert like and city views!!

Challenging but fun. Decent number of people on there even for a Monday. I hiked up Piestewa Peak from the main lot and then on my way back down turned onto Freedom Loop and took it all the way back around to the parking lot clockwise. 300 to the top then 302 around
