Hikers, walkers, sightseers and runners alike flock to this prominent peak like moths to a flame, drawn here in part because of it proximity to the city of Phoenix. Despite the crowds this mountain can still be a lot of fun, offering a short but taxing climb and many great views along the short route.

Rock climbing

Arrived at 5:30 AM. Already way too crowded. I had to park on a residential street and only got to meet with half of my group. The rest started without us. It was way too heavily trafficked. This is a work out trail for the vast many and they do it every day. By the time we hiked out there were not as many people on the trail and it was 100° when we finished at 8:30am. One of my fave spot to hike. Kinda crowded but the hikers are very friendly. Road is rocky, some steep hike which can be challenging at some. It is a must to finish the trail & go in top. The view is all worth it!

I saw many ppl without water. Gave some water to a “newbie” they called themselves. Always bring water especially in hot summer

Love this hike. Discovered in the early 80s while attending ASU. Still come back from Chicago to enjoy this great cardio climb and beautiful sunrise at the top!

Amazing hike, a great workout. I wouldn’t say it’s a hard hike unless you’re going when it’s hot/humid. Lots of bugs at the top so it’s hard to sit and enjoy the view.

Fun hike, although a lot of people on the trail I still enjoyed it. Great views at the top. Got there at 5:30 am and there was no parking so definitely get there earlier if you can. Ended up having to park in the adjacent neighborhood which just extended my hike :) No complaints here!

I trail ran this starting at 4:45 AM on Saturday 7/18. There were already a lot of people on the mountain, but I summited around 5:15 and was greeted by a beautiful sunrise and a man playing music! This is a great hike with awesome views. Definitely challenging with how rocky it is, but the short distance makes it easy enough to deal with. I’d definitely recommend this trail, but also advise an early start!

HikingGreat!

My second favorite hike in the Phoenix area, after Camelback (echo canyon). Check out @hikersledge for frequent photos of recent hikes. This trail is super well maintained, with a lot of parking at the trailhead. The trail offers stunning views of Phoenix and surrounding mountains. Highly recommend bringing plenty of water. It is a fairly steep incline in some areas.

Great hike in the middle of Phx. Always busy so plan accordingly. Short but straight up! A great nerve-wracking moments especially if you are afraid of heights. Will definitely do again!

Excellent hike. Beautiful views. Moderate to Hard. Small scramble at very top. Pretty crowded but not bad for so popular. Easier than Camelback. Do this first if you are thinking about Camelback.
