I recommend taking this loop clockwise, as it makes looking for the cairns easier. Heard a rattlesnake a few feet away, come prepared especially as there is lots of overgrown grass/brush on the trail. Parking lot is closed, but there is a dirt lot .5 miles away from trailhead.

We did this trail a couple days ago. The trailhead parking lot is closed, so it made for a 9.2 mile moderate hike. The water has gone down from a few weeks ago, so it was easy crossing the stream back and forth. When you hit the section of jeep trail (going CCW) look for Cairns in wash for the trail. We did see one Rattle snake in the tall grass.

I am sure the trail is great if we could hike it. We just drove an hour to get here to try to avoid the more crowded trails closer to Phoenix and the trailhead is closed because of COVID I thought we could still be outside in nature!!!

Picketpost perimeter loop. Went CCW to save the pretty part for last. I was glad to have water shoes and poles with me as there were many water crossings and in some spots it seemed impossible to avoid getting wet, but I was prepared and easily trudged through the water that was sometimes mid-calf deep. This was a beautiful trail with gradual ups and downs. Really enjoyed this hike.

it was great, perfect weather. lots of sun exposure so probably not the best idea to go in the summer. went counterclockwise and that was great, some incline in the beginning but very manageable and a fun scenery change

A fun adventure around picket post mountain. Many small stream crossings kept it interesting. Trail tread is beautiful on the AZ trail, then unsustainable on social trails but still a good 9 mile loop.

This is primarily a horse trail, and I saw lots! It would make a lovely ride. As a hiker, If torn up trails and water sullied by livestock doesn’t bother you, then it’s not bad. A portion of it is also on a jeep road.

Loved this trail. Perfect in winter, and we barely saw anyone.

I really liked this trail! It was a perfect length and very easy to follow. The trails are well marked unlike some of the other reviews said. I was a little nervous after reading the other reviews about getting lost because it is easy for me to get lost however I found it very easy to follow. With the water and Clover green areas I found it very beautiful with the changes of scenery. This loop goes all the way around

Easy hike. Little bit of everything from the canyon and streams to open dessert scenery. Only rocky when you are in the wash. Went counter clockwise. 4 hours of easy walking. Lots of horses.

Great hike... but long. Bring lots of water and good shoes for hiking.

Adored this trail!! There’s a little bit of everything and every moment stunning! I went clockwise and was happy to be in the canyon for the first part and also for the benefit of having water throughout the first 1/2-2/3 (which was great for my dog). Others seem to have really struggled with following the trail between the canyon section and the road... honestly I didn’t have a problem and thought it was pretty straightforward if you’re accustomed to a little bit of wayfaring. Basically you know the trail is following the wash (creek) so regardless of which side of the water you’re on, as long as you’re not climbing up towards the ridge and away from the creek bed you’ll be a-ok. There was one very short section when the trail was slightly less apparent, but just slow down and check your surroundings to find the most prominent and logical desire path. (Going clockwise this section was about 1/2 through the connector section, just below the pools of water where the creek bed narrows). Realize the connector will hit a dirt road that you follow 1-2 miles, if you don’t catch the road you won’t end up wandering lost, but your travel for that section will be less efficient because you’ll be following the creek bed. Have fun out there! Lots of horses so keep your dog(s) on a leash.

Beautiful change of scenery all throughout trail. Make sure to keep checking your trail map for accidental turns, hard to tell where trail continues at times. Enjoyed this hike very much. Lots of horses and their riders passing by. Weather was perfect! Very little river water so did not see a waterfall. We would love to do this hike again, totally recommend it.

Amazing trail. We ended up at 11.2 due to missed trail as stated in other reviews. The left side is shady and green with grasses and trees. The canyon rock formations are amazing and you don’t feel boxed in. The middle is a rough section where trail is hard to find and the right side is beautiful lush classic southwest desert landscapes with mountain as backdrop. Will be back for this one again. Definitely download the map and check it often especially at backside section.

Beautiful trail. Had a lot of company. Lot was full when we pulled up. With such a great day don’t blame the influx of hikers/ bikers/ riders.

Long trail with poor markings further in. Listed as 8 ended up doing 12 miles due to lack of said markings.
