Peters Canyon is a 4.3 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Tortilla Flat, Arizona that offers scenic views and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and backpacking.
This was an awesome hike. Gorgeous views. Felt very desolate (we didn’t see anyone on the trail at all). There were pools of water and a cool “cave” at the end. Probably could have kept going back into the canyon for some cool views. It was a bit hard to stay on the trail. It is lightly trafficked but it’s all rocks so it all looks the same. Thankfully there are cairns places out to guide the way. You basically follow the creek bed the entire way. Speaking of rocks.... it is basically *all* rocks after the first bit of the trail. So that was cool but it got a tad bit old after a while. Still worth it though. I brought my dog with me and I would NOT recommend this trail for dogs. There are pretty substantial boulders that you have to climb. Thankfully she is 25 pounds so I could pick her up and hand her to my friend. You’d have to be in decent shape to get past the Boulder scramble without a dog— and all the cool views are up past that anyway. So great trail, but just depends on what you’re looking for!
Could not find a way over the massive boulders in the canyon about 1.4 miles in. Bummer. Next time.
Fun. We didn’t make it all the way because we had a little with us. You may want to master the stairs at the gym before you go.
great trail wayyyy easier than GERONIMO'S HEAD Caynon which is located near by ...both trail very similar the beauty of these caynons are breath takin we are definitely coming back hopefully when the creek has more water ....make sure u download the map u have to scramble a little bit but again great trail ...bring plenty of water!! this trail would be bad for someone with bad knees ...trail ends at an awesome cave ... though we continue an extra .3 mile we couldn't get enough of this place !
This trail doesn’t get enough love. The first mile isn’t super exciting, but once you turn into the canyon, the boulder scrambling is really fun to try and figure out. If you go just slightly further, the wash is smooth and feels like another planet. If you keep going, you get to the cave up on the right and the end of the All Trails map. It was a little over 5 miles for us. Not hard, but most was walking in the wash, which gets annoying after awhile. Wear pants!
Exploring lower Peters’s Canyon then bushwhacking over to Tortilla Canyon for a Loop.
